On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we dive into the divide between the youth movement and a veteran heavy roster for the Wild in 2023-24. We look at the reasons we will likely see either Jujhar Khaira and Vinni Lettieri occupy the 13th forward spot when the Wild actually need an extra body. Beyond that, it’s likely that this team will leave that spot in the lineup open. Things as always depend entirely on the injury situation, and if there are a multitude of injuries that would certainly force the team’s hand. We also discuss why the Trade Deadline will provide this team a chance to call up younger players, IF the Wild are not in a position to make the playoffs. We finish by looking at the situations that Marco Rossi, Calen Addison and Brock Faber are in as we get closer to the start of the season to see if they are being put in positions to succeed.

The cost of another Evason quick playoff exit w veterans is the experience and development of Rossi, Beckman , Walker, Hunt and Lambos. It puts this team backwards for 2 more additional years at minimum . Poor Development Philosophy . Evason needs playoff success to keep job he will lean on vets and retard development at all costs , his job is on the line

What bothers me is this "our roster is set" mentality the organization seems to have. Great teams (we all know the Wild aren't a great team) dont have that mindset. IMO, there are only a handful of players on this team that their position is completely safe. Everyone else should be battling. And I get it, we are working our way to 2025, with 2023 & 2024 being throw away seasons, but they have to start infusing these younger guys consistenty in the line up so they are READY for 2025, as well as getting the prospects abroad on their way to the corn fields of Iowa.
I know this isnt directly related but the next goalie centric topic you cover, I hope you really look into what the whole setup is going to be. You have the two guys in the show with Gus and Flower, Then in the AHL you have Jesper cooking but also MacIntyre and Jones on the main roster. I'm just honestly curious what they're planning on doing with Jones because they obviously have their guy in Wallstead coming up, the Iowa Wild probably prefers MacIntyre, and honestly I dont want to see Jones down here in Coralville for a 3rd year. Kid's made amazing strides since 2021/22 and I dont believe it does him much good spending time in the ECHL.

Big year for HCDE. I think Billy G is smart enough to know when to cut the cord with Deano, if need be. However, if logical moves are made this year for the young kids, where we get good looks all season is probably the game-plan.
Next year is a different story though, and guys like Walker will be a mainstay in the lineup.
