Will Simon Nemec Make The NJ Devils Opening Night Roster? Nemec came to camp this season set on a mission to make the Devils roster and it shows. Hes showing game in, game out that he’s put in the hard work this offseason to improve on areas he needed to work on and it shows. The Devils lost 2 veteran defenseman in Damon Severson and Ryan graves that logged heavy minutes and played against the other teams top players and this created roster spots, but the Devils have other Defenseman that can step in as well.
The Devils still have Brendan Smith, and brought in Colin Miller and Cal Foote to give the New Jersey Devils some needed depth on the Blue Line for the season, and their is that top prospect Luke Hughes in our pipeline as well as Kevin Bahl too.
Simon Nemec had to come into camp ready to show he belongs up here and he has. From his skating, to passing, to shooting, to making transitional plays hes proving he deserves one of those open spots question is has he done enough to make Tom Fitzgerald, Lindy Ruff and the rest of Devils management keep him with the NJ Devils or will he be sent down to start the season in the AHL with the Utica Comets?

Looked good so far. If Nemec and Luke Hughes develop as expected going to be an insanely good D corp in the near future. So excited for the upcoming season. Lets Go Devils!

Nemec SHOULD make the opening night roster! Bur I think there's a 50% chance that he WILL make the opening night roster!
Ha, I been looking for reasons to grab him as my fantasy sleeper. He is exciting to watch and I say Yes give him a big time shot!
I don't think he's on the opening night roster, he'll be 1RD in Utica for one more year. Call him up if there's an injury or for a cup of coffee. It wont hurt his development – it's better for him to get a ton of minutes in the A rather than 10-15 minutes in random NHL games as a 7 D.
I think he will because we set our roster up for him and Like to come up this year.
Honestly he looks better to me than Luke but I don't think he will make the team. I just think a lot has to do with the PK. Lindy and Fitz would rather have a veteran like Miller killing penalties along with Siegs, Bahl and Marino. Hamilton and Luke won't be used much on the PK unless one of the other 4 is in the box. This is just how they think.
Nemec's definitely has some good offensive abilities but his defensive play leaves a lot to be desired at the NHL level. There were several times when he stood flatt footed at the side of the net watching the puck carrier. At 12 minutes into period 2, Alex Belzile, a player who was waived by the Rangers the next day, skated right around Nemec for the break away…any other player on the ice would have scored. I wasn't a fan of the pick but now that we have him…do the right thing and give him the time defensemen need to develop. He will be a really good addition, next year.
