Also, [per Colin Stephenson](https://x.com/colinsnewsday/status/1708309604948475922?s=46&t=mMrur753P1xs0bpK8f3y_w):
“Still learning systems? Laviolette didn’t want to hear it.
“Backchecking is a universal language. There’s no system involved there. Finishing your checks… competing for pucks is a universal language. Execution has to be a universal language. And so there’s no excuses for that.””

“More Laviolette:
“It was not good, at all. There’s just way too much missing in the first period. Mildly better in the second, but not good enough. And then in the third period we decided to work and compete… That’s unacceptable, The first half of that game.””

He’s saying all the right things, just depends if the veteran core of this team wants to buy into it.
Hope they respond with strong starts in the next bunch of games.
Frankly I think we need a coach that says this. Time for the vets to put up or shut up.
Love it, good shit, let’s see how the boys respond. This has been an issue for a long time
I’m starting to think we don’t have coaching issues, we have player issues
And having the worst captain in the league doesn’t help
Gotta love the lazy vets
Laffy was embarrassing on the first isles goal.
Again, the coach was not the main issue
“It’s not who we are.”
Beg to differ.
Still in playoff form I see
There it is. Doesn’t matter who coaches this team… their lack of effort in the latter half of their single playoff round last season showed us who they are.
You may say, “It’s just pre-season.” Sue it is, but the coach is livid as well.
