  1. bruh you can't say "adding Ryan Reaves" as a justification for saying the Leafs are Cup favorites. like do these people even watch hockey anymore

  2. The Leafs got much worse this offseason, and the little dude there should stop watching hockey, he clearly doesn't understand what's going on.

  3. This is the wackest clickbait title I've ever seen. Draisaitl is a better player than Matthews and he makes like 5 mil less per year lol

  4. Marchand is a great player and very team friendly price for him as well…looks like the team captain as well.
    That’s the best contract.

  5. Bring the cup home to Canada it’s been to long not a big leafs fan but let’s get it done

  6. some of these players like marchand and draisaril need to fire their agents for their bad contracts. you would think these players would look around and see some of these bad contracts and say i'm only going to do short term contracts like matthews so i can make the most i can. i know people will say you gotta take less to win – they should get as much money as they possibly can.

  7. Last thing we need is high expectations. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the newly anointed highest paid player in the league, along with his little buddy "Perimeter Pete" get intimidated to heck every playoffs. Amusingly, Nylander, who put up 40 goals, and consistently plays quiet well in playoffs, is the fall guy. Heck Nylander is affordable, and it wouldn't be a vast overpay if he's making nearly double digits. Not gonna happen, though. Pity Treliving was left with a team in shambles contract wise. Can only hope Dubas does the same to the Penguins. Oh wait, he has already. Picking up an aging Karlsson when they already have an aging PP specialist isn't good player management. There's only so much time on ice. Dubas, yet again, makes a critical mistake early on.

  8. I massive issue I see is the few players with elite offensive talent on each team eating up much of the cap. This puts pressure down the line, especially on the many 20 goal scorers type of player. Guys like this possibly have a better overall game, yet get squeezed out due to the elite players. Meh, there's something broken with player contracts and unless it's addressed on a league wide basis, I can't see it changing anytime soon.

  9. When the CBA opens up in 2026 I'm betting 8 year deals will be toast. Max 5 or 6 will be the limit. I don't understand why Matthews gets slagged for signing shorter term deals. He will, assuming good health, hit another big ticket deal when he hits 30, so good for him. Why there's the comparison to Hughes, I don't get. Matthews massively out-performed Hughes in his ELC, scoring 111 goals & 205 points to 44 & 108 for Hughes. Matthews is 6' 3" & 210 lbs, does hit (77 last year), blocks shots, is over 50% on draws & has over 50 takeaways last season. Hughes is 5' 11" & 175 lbs & frankly, soft as a grape. That's why Matthews got the huge aav as an RFA, betting on himself to be good enough to get a raise after 5 yrs, which he did. Hughes chose security, which with his initial production up to signing his RFA deal, was the safe thing to do. However, now that he has broken out for 99 pts in year 1, he may be second guessing the wisdom of committing for that length of time. I am certain that Draisaitl & MacKinnon who did the same thing out of their ELCs & who exploded in production in year 2 of their 8 yr deals, may have seriously regretted signing for that long. MacKinnon more than doubled his aav on his extension kicking in this season, but again chose to go long. I'm curious what Draisaitl does next July when he's eligible for an extension, or what Rantanen & Marner do who are also up at that time.

  10. Leon by a mile. If you can pay the second best player in the world 8.5 annually in todays NHL it’s as good as the Nurse contract is bad.

  11. All his money is front loaded in signing bonus because if a lock out happens he still gets signing bonus every July 1st.

  12. Lots of better players. does he ever become over rated though he hasn't won f*ck all and still gets paid after 7 years. Can't stand soft players even if the league is changing don't be a p*ssy

  13. Paying a player 13.25 with one full season and one season over 90pts is insane and cripples a team already cap strapped.

  14. Yeah, best contract for HIM. Which is all Matthews cares about – the name on the back of his jersey lol

  15. I’ve said it before I’ll say it again you CANNOT WIN with that much cap tied up in their like 4 players it’s a joke
