  1. Maynard's problem will be this. If he hadn't pulled his arms down and braced for contact using his hands and arms he wouldn't have knocked out Brayshaw, chances are. He got knocked out because he got him with the shoulder and he got him with the shoulder because he put his arms down. And on history McAdam got 3 without the player being hurt.

  2. Maynard didn't turn his body. He turned his head, which is a natural instinctive human action when approaching impactful trauma. The body will turn in this instance. Smothering or attempted smothering is a legal act. When is the AFL going to stop punishing players for accidents to protect themselves from litigation. Players should sign risk acceptance waiver to play the game.

  3. The AFL need to take some sort of onus for the Brayshaw incident as they were aware he had concussion issues hit in the head by a ball and concussed if a player is susceptible to concussion, The AFL need to introduce a six-month layoff ban brain injuries just don't mend like a bone. A players life after the game must be taken into consideration.

  4. if brayshaw had two feet planted on ground ,isnt it also on him to take evasive action or sidestep after he kicked the ball ? if maynard didnt attemp to jump up and try to spoil i doubt coach would even select him
    .

  5. We should have never given women the right to vote, let alone oversee a successful men's AFL competition.
    Prove me wrong…

  6. Doesn't have to turn, tuck his arm and drop his shoulder. Could of stayed front on with hands out. Sure it's awkward but it would not have knocked him out.

  7. I try not to listen to SEN when Kane Cornes is on . He thinks he is great by being Controversial but hes not. He is just there to talk Dribble and earn mega $$$$ by it !

  8. This weekend just gone I saw 3 NRL players smother the ball from kickers trying to score a field goal. They managed it while running full pelt at the kicker without jumping off the ground as high as Maynard, without any obvious body contact with the kickers or causing a concussion.

It's hard to mount a case that what Maynard did was reasonable given there are other ways to smother a ball leaving a player's foot when you run towards a player without jumping up at a player that results in contact with their head.
