  1. While I’m not confident with the team yet until the lines are set, I’d take that 75 to 1 all day if they can get some chemistry going

  2. Biz made some incredibly great points here, especially with how overblown the Backstrom situation has been. I don’t think he’s going to be anywhere near prime Backstrom, but could see him playing really well like he did in the 56-game season. I still think they miss the playoffs but they should by no means be written off. The metro is a bloodbath

  3. Where’s the red wings season preview! Don’t sleep on Stevie Y’s plan. Everyone is sleeping on the wings in the Atlantic!

  4. They are an old, talented team. They do have some young guys pressing, but, reality is, and it does not take a genius to figure this out, they stay healthy they make the playoffs. They have another year with key folks missing 20-30 games they do not. For the organization long term, probably better they not make the playoffs because there is no way they are a real cup contender. they got two years left with Ovi than they are blowing it all up anyway.

  5. hopefully #8 puts his money where his mouth is and enlists in the russian army for combat duty. putinteam
He's an embarrassment to Washington DC regardless of how good he is at hockey. I want to take a shower everytime I remember I cheered for that guy for 15 years.

  6. Biz is actually spot on in his assessments at: 2:14,, Starts with Kuemper, then our veterans role players healthy, then our youngins stepping up (particalarly our blue liners).

  7. Pacioretty age 34, coming back from major injury and only played a little over half the games in a season for the last 3 seasons straight.
Backstrom age 35, coming back from major injury had 21 points in 39 games last season and only played a little over half the games in a season for the last 3 seasons straight.
    Oshie, age 36
    Kuznetsov, age 31
Carlson, age 33, only played a little over half the games in the 2 of the last 3 seasons straight

These guys are old in hockey years, not in their prime anymore they are in the decline of their careers as shown by the numbers and games played the last few seasons. Only extremely rare players like Ovi, Brent Burns, Joe Pavelski play full seasons with numbers like they were in their prime. I think it will be extremely difficult for them to make the playoffs.

  8. The unknowns are how the kids will do on the big club. Miroshnichenko looks very promising. Lapierre, McMichael have to make the next step up after some time in our system (McMichael especially). Protas is a big kid, and hopefully his mix of NHL / AHL experience helps his game. Iorio continues to develop on the backend.
