saddle dome is so iconic rip
I mean calgary is a great city that’s growing fast tho so hopefully they can make a new arena happen
noice
I love the saddle dome but it is time to get rid of it but I need to get 1 last game there
wow im happy for you
On one hand, saying goodbye to the Saddledome will be tough. That's been a defining part of the Calgary skyline for four decades now, akin to SkyDome in Toronto. There's also the three Cup Finals, and 1989 championship to mention.
Nothing ever lasts forever, as Tears for Fears once lyricized. The Saddledome's had a good, long life for a sports venue when you think about it, and Calgary badly needs a new sports venue. WinSport renovations aren't good enough. So it's time.
I went to my first game at the saddledome last february. The nose bleed seats in the top curves of the saddle may be the most interesting thing for all arenas. I wanted to check them out but literally couldnt find my way up. Overall I think the outside is iconic but the inside is a dump, espiecially compared to rogers place.
A billion dollars for a game of "sports ball" that nobody really gives 2 sh*ts about… meanwhile we out here struggling to buy food and our leaders are clapping for Naz!'s and cut our military spending by 1 billion aswell, all while we fund Naz!s in Ukraine and ask for Russia to nuke our new calgary arena as soon as it gets finished 😂 what a clown show of a world
I hope they keep a bit of it alive, like how Montreal did with the centre ice of the old Forum.
It's done wonders for Edmonton. I'm happy for you guys. Much deserved for the fans. Good for events too.
Well this just confirmed that I need to get out and see a game at the saddle dome. Anyone know a good time in the winter to head out to Calgary?
The next arena better be saddle shaped or we will RIOT
Always wanted to see a game there. I did get to pass by it this summer…so at least I've seen this historic arena with my own eyes. Will have to make an effort to get up there next year during hockey season.
No complaints from me if you posted more content like this. As an Oilers fan residing in Calgary, can’t wait for the new arena and the atmosphere it creates in the city. One question though, what’s it gonna be called? 🤔
being an Edmonton boy, I'm bummed about the saddle dome being demolished.. Our Coliseum is getting the same treatment (though for esbestos).. Seeing the abandoned state it's in at the moment is kinda heart breaking… so many memories (personally and as a city) of a bygone era, there.
I can't say I've been pumped about Rogers arena though.. it's completely effed up our downtown core… but it is what it is.. it's a nice facility at least..
hope Calgary's facility upgrade is going to be worth it!
As an Edmontonian its weird when the Oilers moved out of Rexal place, it feels like the end of an era. So I feel the pain of saying goodbye to the Saddledome, it is such an iconic piece of Calgary, and will be missed. Now as an electrician that works in property maintenance on alot of old buildings, to the "why cant they re-use it, renovate it, re-purpose it, use it as a shelter" crowd, just stop. You have no idea the massive amounts of time and money that can be burnt, to achieve very little down that road.
As an Oilers fan, i still feel different everytime i walk into that building, it just hits differently (sometimes not in the best way) but its just like seeing Rexall place, the Northlands Coliseum getting demolished, it just doesn't feel right, but we knew we had to do it, and im also kinda happy they made that decision
Yertle the turtle was a good friend, gonna be exited to see the new rink when it’s finished
Its a bitter sweet deal, im happy for the flames fans of course but im always against public funding when it comes to building sports stadiums. I wish that I can come see a game when the habs are on the road before the saddledome gets demolished
Gonna miss the dome and the smoking area in the nose bleeds that didnt exist but i did anyways lol have to go see some games this year and hope a new stadium is next for the Stamps 👏👏✌
Congrats Calgary! About time it got started.
As an Oilers fan, I'm happy about you guys getting it done and getting a new arena. Roger's place has been nothing but awesome for us up here. The only thing that makes me upset is the double standard that we get from the Alberta government all the time.. When we asked for money from the provincial government for our arena we got a whole "f you build it yourself." So to hear their contributing 300 mil towards that project kind of pisses me off.
the worst deal in the history of sports arena deals for taxpayers is going down! fucking awesome everyone yeah lets celebrate! more billionaire charity
Yeah must be nice to have 300+ dollar ticket concerts up north YEAHHHH they can come here so 99.9% of people can say "wow I still can't afford to go to that" and go about their day that's fucking LIT
Oh man I am gonna miss the dome its an Icon. But at this point its turning into a massive public health hazard. The 2013 floods really damaged it, and its better to knock it down than have it fall down…
Well goodbye to all the Battle of Alberta memories there, just like when the Oilers left the Northlands Coliseum
So long as it's still dangerous to ride public transit, then it's money well spent
