From the article: “After 45 years as a player, coach, senior manager and leader within the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Operations department, Stan Smyl has decided to transition from his day-to-day duties, but will remain involved with the club.“

I still can’t get over the mess he left for Patrick Allvin.

Left the team with no prospects or cap-space. I can’t think of anything good he accomplished in his time as GM.

Steamer really is a legend. When he served briefly as GM he spoke up for Canucks fans and said what needed to be said. I hope he gets a proper tribute from the team.

Noooooooo. Hopefully he really stays involved. Absolute legend.

Well, there goes my wish of having him be president.

I grew up idolizing the Steamer. I was in elementary school and recall trading as many hockey cards as I could to get more Stan Smyl cards. I guarantee I traded some Gretzky rookie cards straight up for them.

    If only I was a smarter child…

Class act on and off the ice, whatever he decides to do, best of luck to him!

He should’ve transitioned to the teams official draft pick announcer.

He was a Canuck a decade before Quinn’s arrival but I still consider Smyl a “school of Quinn” guy. His pride on his sleeve, heartfelt speech during that brief moment he was in charge felt like school of Quinn. It was real breath of fresh air to demand accountability and remind people what it meant to be a Vancouver Canuck.

That was the last flash of the type of character Quinn nurtured in his players; but of course Aquilini had to snuff it out as soon as it ignited.

I hope he is happy with whatever he decides to do next. He was much before my time, but is a true Canuck.

Does his new position allow for his name to be engraved on the cup this year when the team wins?
