Seattle just did something GENIUS

Seattle has been trying to figure out what to do with their first round Draft pick Shane Wright… he hasn’t been playing, but they are somewhat limited in what they can do. We’ll cover all that and more on today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. Should have played the whole season in the juniors! Hasn't dominate the OHL yet. He will struggle in the AHL as well, mark my word.

  2. sorry if you got frustrated by me not fully explaining a situation… that wasn't my intention. Then proceeds to end the video without explaining further… chef's kiss

  3. Could he not be sent to Europe, for example the Swiss or Swedish league? To play with men for a year? Is that not an option?

  4. I loved the Dumais highlights you snuck in there šŸ˜‰ CBJ fan here watching him absolutely demolish the Q!

  5. I mean it was a good move. Calling this GENIUS is a bit of a stretch donā€™t you think? Your titles use such dramatic words to describe mundane everyday things itā€™s hilarious šŸ˜‚

  6. Itā€™s kind of nice that overage juniors can come back and learn to dominate. But for higher end draft picks like Shane Wright whoā€™ve already dominated juniors, itā€™s kind of a wasted year. Would be interesting if 1st round picks were eligible for AHL hockey so they could take the next step in professional development.

  7. Chicago sent Kirby Dach down to the AHL for the start of 19-20 Season, I think it was because of a head injruy in training camp though

  8. I didn't know you covered hockey too! I've been subscribed to your SW channel for a long time now.
I recognized your voice. I just clicked on it because it's about my Kraken.

  9. For people more familiar – why would Seattle not want to send Wright down to OHL Kingston and let him dominate?

  10. this may be way too infrequent to consider, but i feel a player who was granted exceptional status should be able to waive that CHL agreement. clearly hes proven to be too good previously, he should just be able to go straight to the AHL instead

  11. Imagine Not being good enough to play in the NHL and being given every single excuse you could possibly be given.

This guy has bust written all over him.

His draft him and send his a** back to junior.

  12. This is stupid. He's clearly having confidence issues. The best thing to do is send him back to junior.

  13. Since this guy was 15 he was touted as amazing and a lock for the #1 overall pick. He is TERRIBLE… just like Lafreniere. All these sh*tty players get hyped up before the draft and get picked high for no logical reason. This guy is a 3rd round pick at best

  14. Nah he shouldā€™ve been in the ohl from the start of the season. Seattle doesnā€™t need him yet and hakstol doesnā€™t have the best track record of developing prospects. He already missed a year of hockey as it is. His draft season was also disappointing and the only reason he feels entitled is because of his exceptional status. Riding pine in the nhl wonā€™t do him any good

  15. Iā€™d rather have him light it up in Junior, than have him in the AHL. Help him get his confidence back. But just as I typed that, Eck says Shane doesnā€™t want to go back to Junior. Is that a fact? Has he openly said that? And also, Iā€™m sure most top tier draft picks donā€™t WANT to go back to Junior. But tough nuggets, kids. Thatā€™s the way she goes. And itā€™s 99% of the time in their best interest. Patience, young Padawans.

  16. 18 19 years old he has to play ā€¦ send him to World Juniors trade him to London Knights and all will be well

  17. As soon as he played in the CHL he became ineligible to play NCAA, they consider the CHL professional.

  18. Auston Matthews got 4 goals in his first NHL game.
But what are the odds of that happening?

  19. They definitely need to reevaluate their CHL agreement. In the interim, I hope they can bring in some lawyers and brainstorm a way to mitigate lawsuit risk and pull off some plan where the Kraken just send him down to the AHL and both the NHL and AHL just refuse to enforce any punishment on the Kraken for doing so.

The kid is simultaneously too good for the OHL and (we now know) not good enough for the NHL. Definitely at 18, arguably since he was 15. The only reason the NHL made this agreement is because they know the CHL produces NHL players downstream, and ultimately it would not be good for the NHL talent pool if a bunch of CHL teams started to fold. Its far from a guarantee though. The most historic and well funded teams like London would still exist for sure, and the teams in the middle would probably make out ok too. Frankly, its entirely possible that the outcome could be a higher level of competition (better development) due to a higher concentration of talent on fewer teams. Other than those hypotheticals I dont really understand why the NHL abides. Good optics? Pure kindness?

  20. I'm excited for Shane Wright to get his time on the ice, but only after he's truly ready. And it's clear the Kraken DON'T need him at this moment, so it's not a bad situation.

  21. Sit him for two weeks so he can play two weeks in the ahl, genius. Send this brat down, catering to his whims isnā€™t gonna make him better. This kid seems like a josh ho-sang. I can see why so many teams passed on him
