Man, losing Kaliyev for the first two games of the regular season blows. It's already going to be tough playing Colorado and Carolina, but missing your second line winger won't make it any easier.
It was a stupid thing for him to do, but it was his first offense, so he'll need to learn from it, and ensure that he doesn't repeat it. He probably shouldn't have got that many games either. I hope Chase De Leo is alright.
Kaliyev being gone while PL is still getting used to the Kings' systems and building chemistry really sucks. Looks like Laferriere might stick around a bit before getting sent back to Ontario.
I think the Kaliev suspension is a bit excessive not overtly as it was definitely a penalty but I don't think the Knee was as egregious as a 4 game suspension would suggest his legs were already spread out and he turned into the knee contact but I'm not the one making the decisions

Cogliano injured Fiala with a knee last year and headbutted Kempe with intent to injure and only got 2 games for the headbutt and 0 for the knee on Fiala. Agree with suspension but don’t agree with the BS lack of consistency.

The NHL Department of Safety should not have giving a 4 game suspension for kneeing. Even though he is not consider a dirty play. They allowed Evander Kane doing a lot more dirty hits with Kneeing and Cross-checking to the head should have been given a 50 game suspension but the NHL Department of Safety doesn't suspend Evander Kane only give him a fine. That is not right.

Kaliyev should have been fined but not suspended. It's hard to determine intent unless you somehow know what is in that players mind but it looked to me that Kaliyev was trying to make himself as big as possible to slow the player that he was angry at down as he came at him but ended up with the knee out. There are very few players that do that type of stuff on purpose or with instumctual intent and Kaliyev is not that guy. Kinda like people were getting on Edler for some knee on knee but Edler had lost some skating mobility later in his career and stuck out his leg in panic mode when he was getting beat so there are really only a couple of guys in the NHL that would do such a thing deliberately.
