Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – 2011 NHL Draft Prospect

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (#9) of the Red Deer Rebels plays against the Vancouver Giants on November 10, 2010 at the Pacific Coliseum. The Nuge ended up with an assist and shootout goal. 2012 NHL draft prospect Mathew Dumba also scores in this video.

Obviously I’m not a scout (or a pro videographer, for that matter, and my camera sucks), but I wanted to get a video together where people could see how one of the highest-rated draft prospects plays shift to shift. Usually when draft time comes, videos of the top prospects on Youtube are highlight clips rather than of sustained gameplay, and you can’t form a good impression of a prospect with that.

  1. @mustus71 Giants won in the shootout 3-2. Red Deer had scored two quick ones, including the goal in the video, to tie it in the third after trailing 2-0.

  2. @shotty2222 I'm not really sure because I've only seen him play on TV a couple times other than this. In terms of an ex-NHLer, at first glance he reminds me of Cliff Ronning.

after seeing him play in person a few times now, I'd say Brad Richards comes to mind, obviously not at the same skill level, but he is ALWAYS in position and is an exceptional passer.

  4. Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. You're right; way too many highlight clips and not enough clips of him playing without the puck (which is what's important)

  5. not spectacular in this clip.. im not doubting that hes a great player, but this doesnt appear to be his best game

  6. @Sean1983 not really…I have to say a crossbreed bettween datsyuk and sakic. crazy right, but its true
