  1. I hate to say it but they lost any chance to compete once Babcock got fired. Vincent is going to be worried to not go to hard on them and that's exactly what they needed. Some people don't like Torts but look at his top 4 guys last year. They all had career year's. I'm not saying they should have kept Mike but they need an extremely hard coach to get back going and a first time coach that knows his players are willing to complain (and these kids know they can now) will be very careful. I doubt we'll see much passionate game's this year. I would of sprinkled a bit of coins on Fantilli winning the Calder but not now. ….I'm not being a douche here by the way. I'm just stating my opinion and I hope I'm wrong. I kind of have a thing for teams that just have never or haven't been a threat for a while. Good to have you guys back. I was working night shifts in a almost city lol and could listen to whatever I wanted so I didn't miss 1 in all of last year. I love to see the Leafs loose just to hear you guys the next day.

  2. Your seriously under rating Columbus. Having you top defensemen out the hole season and Voracek career ending plus a lot small injuries. Destroyed last season.

Laine have look good centering Gaudreau and Marchenko. I think they make the playoffs.

  3. A couple things. It’s preseason so it’s a grain of salt but Laine has been playing well at Center and I feel like it brings more of his overall game out. And we had a lot of AHL talent in a lot of our games last season that I felt got overlooked. Not saying we’re going to be playoff contenders but I’m hoping it’s more than a tippy toe improvement.

  4. Improved defense and a good young dynamic coach…It can work wonders if also that goalie situation get better cause in offense, it looks good ! They can't possibly have the same kind of year, no way !

  5. Hammer the over on their point total. This team got 59 with a roster that couldn’t qualify for preseason veteran minimum.

Look, I’d say CBJ won’t be contenders or anything, but they will take a huge step. Imagine a team effectively adding Werenski, Provorov, and Severson to their blue line, with Jirichek and Matychuk in the AHL getting big minutes. Jirichek still needs some time in the AHL, and there’s no rush with all the vets added.

Fantilli is also looking really good. He’s all over the ice and has a wildly sneaky release. He will probably bounce around between 2C or a winger, depending on how his chemistry with line mates goes (and who is playing vs injured).

Laine can break 40 goals if he’s healthy. He was on pace, but got injured. And yes, Laine 1C is real and putting the league on notice. He did great in that spot this preseason and looked pretty competent even in that brief preview in the regular season last year before injury. Now, being 1C might shift his points towards apples, but I’ll take it.

Adam is closest on prediction, imo. They have the tools to even be a sneaky WC2 if a lot of stars align, but somewhere in 5th-6th makes sense. However, a window is quickly opening in Columbus.

  6. Laine is ripping it up as centre in preseason having multi-goal games…

  7. Old info. Tim Berni didn't earn a contract in training camp, and reports have him playing in Switzerland this year.

  8. Elvis had a litteral AHL defense in front of him. Im not saying he is great, he understandably hasnt been since the tragedy of Kivi. But there was nothing in front of him last year to help out.

  9. Larsen was out for a couple of games late in the season due to a personal issue. Pascal Vincent ran the bench while he was out, and those were the games they tried Laine at center. Laine has been a center basically this entire preseason, and I thought he’s looked pretty solid, actually. He’s surprisingly good on the dot, his feet are moving all the time, he looks engaged. He’s also trying a lot of dumb stuff that’s gonna burn him. But it also looks like he’s learning, and the chemistry he’s shown playing between Gaudreau and Marchenko has been fun to watch. I think 6th is a reasonable expectation, and they’ll hit the over. Maybe not by much, but they’ll hit it. I think the O/U for last year was mid-70s as well, it just all fell apart, and quickly. And this team should be demonstrably better than last year’s.
