  1. Some news on the final day of training camp..

The Winnipeg Jet Hockey Club announced today they have agreed to terms with both forward Mark Scheifele and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on identical seven-year contract extensions with an average annual value of $8,500,000. Both of their seven-year contract extensions will begin in the 2024-25 season.

    Happy they signed!

The concern is there that if the terms of the extension is for 7 years each, then it might prove to be 1-2 years longer than what it needs to be when these players come into the later half of their careers.

I hope I am proven wrong, but we’ll never know what will come of this for another 5 years.

AAV seems like a hometown discount from the two. Term is like the club thanking them for their service.

Chevy deserves a shit ton of credit for the return on PLD. I don’t think they sign if we get picks/prospects instead of players from LA

Wow I am surprised at the term given their ages and Helly’s desire to win a cup. With the cap going up, i get the value per year (as long as Schieffle buys into Bones system).

On the positive, both players want to stay in the Peg so that’s awesome. Even after these big changes and how things ended with Bones last year calling them out.

  7. I wonder if Vegas winning the cup with backup goalies kind of reset the goalie market? Teams want to use that money elsewhere vs tying up 10+m in one position.

I agree with signing both. But seven years on a goalie at 30?
