Columbus Blue Jackets signed a limited -free agent for Nick Blankenburg for a two -year contract worth $ 1.65 million on Friday.

Blankenburg joined the Blue Jackets in April with an agreement of one year, entry-level after completing his senior season at the University of Michigan.

A 24-year-old defender from Washington, Mich., Has one goal and two assists in seven matches during his rookie campaign.

“Nick is a hard, competitive, and intelligent defender who really impressed us after his arrival at the end of last season,” General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement. “He has great potential, and we are very happy to witness his sustainable growth and development with our club.”

Blankenburg also played for the United States in the world hockey championship in May to a knee injury to end its tournament after four matches.
