Could Lindy Ruff put Simon Nemec as a healthy Defensive scratch to start the NHL season?

Should Simon Nemec watch from the bench, or get reps in the AHL? Thatt is the debate between Danny and Adam. They look at the play of Smith and Miller and disagree on where the best value should be for Simon Nemec.
On Offense, camp has shown exactly why Curtis Lazar was picked up last season, a grinding full effort guy the Devils want on that fourth line. The question now, will Nocek be locked into the starting role – Or could Tycee Thompson and Nolan Foote make a case for a NHL spot?

  1. Ultimately for 23 guys: it's Lazar Nosek Thompson Foote Smith Nemec all fighting for 3 spots.

My bet is Lazar, Nosek, and Smith that make opening night, but we'll see.

  2. When I first started watching, I thought Adam was carrying Danny. The opposite is so true. When he asked Danny, "How come you are willing to have Thompson as a healthy scratch and not Nemec?" The only answer is "dah". I hope he was just trying to catch Danny off guard.

  3. I think this pairing is more about seeing Smith and Miller next to each other. The better player is matched with Hughes.

  4. I would much rather see Simon get playing time in the AHL. There were some seriously BAD defensive moments against the Rangers…one example…and there are others…At 12 minutes of period 2, Alex Belzile undressed Nemec as he went around him on his way to a breakaway….and the Rangers waived Belzile the next morning…what will a "real" NHLer do? D guys take longer to develop so give him the time…do it right there is no need to rush, we already have a scoring threat in John Marino!
