Does Ramus Dahlin’s Extension Impact Moritz Seider’s Next Contract? | Detroit to Carry 12 Forwards

Zach Aston-Reese has cleared waivers, and has been sent down to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Derek Lalonde confirmed the team will carry just 12 forwarrds, and might even run 11 forwards and 7 defensemen in the season opener. Rasmus Dahlin inked an 8 year $11M per year contract. Will this extension impact what Seider will get at the end of this season? #lgrw

  1. My feeling is that Mo will get signed for 6-8 years at 8-8.5 AAV per year nowhere near 11million that Dahlin got.

  2. He’ll likely get a bridge contract of 4 years and 8.5 per and get another crack at free agency and a chance to show he’s as elite and complete of a player as Dahlin appears to be. As of now, Mo is not at that level.

  3. Sob, that means they r rolling with 11 forwards and 7 D. The price we pay for hiring a John Cooper disciple. I hate when teams do that, there is no balance on 4 lines. Lalonde did say that it was a possibility. Also, sign Mo to 8.5-10+ for 8 and get it done. He is our generational D man, sign him cheap before the cap goes up. Also, for the 13th forward, cant use it on Soder, Casper, and Berger. They need to play consistent minutes, just bring a Czarnik type of player, who isnt a prospect.

  4. Sprong played against Ahl players and under. I don’t put stock in that they have not played NHL talent.!!!

  5. I want to know why Edvinson didn’t make the team. He was one of the best Dmen and Wallinder they played against NHL players and they get sent down? It’s not something I really like and Lalonde is a puppet just like Blashill was.

  6. I have no clue of Hockey but I tell you right now what the "problem" is right now with the roster:

The Wings wanted to waive Alex Lyon (The Griffins had him on their roster on their website), but due to the injury of Andrei Vasilevskiy these plans changed because the Red Wings dont wanna lose Lyon to Tampa.
And since the Wings now have to carry 3 Goalies, lots have changed for the roster composition.

  7. No, in no way will Dahlin's contract affect what contract MO's talk about. MO's agent is Claude Percy Lemieux, yea that guy we all learn to love and hate over the years.

Dahlin is a generation talent, MO not as much yet. So it is better to use Lark's contract as Lark is the team's best player which MO can very well overcome as a defender and that also includes C on the chest in the future.

Most things suggest that MO makes a bridging deal where shorter time and money are within reasonable limits for two parties. Most of it is in Mo's own hands and in today's RW we find many overpaid vets and Claude will of course use that in negotiations.

If S.Y keeps his approach as before (hard balling great players), then we may very well see MO looking at his own house and choosing other options. Today, there is not much that speaks for this, as MO thrives in RW but negotiations can easily go sour. RW also has a long tradition of not wanting to pay their best players in the area of 10/Mil or more.

  8. If players keep asking for 10+ million contracts, you surround yourself with weaker players by restricting the rest of the teams salary. Then you end up like Toronto, who can't keep their core players anymore.

  9. Tampa has run 11 forwards and 7 defense for years. they spot shift the 4th line (2 shifts per period). It gives the top forwards extra ice.

  10. What they’re doing is allowing the backup goalie battle to continue untill the better backup emerges. At that point they’ll risk putting the other on waivers and we’ll call up a 13th forward

  11. They used the preseason to give looks to our D prospects. Basically the entirety of the preason our prospects were paired with a vet (outside of walman seider and a game with ghost and chiarot). So there wasnt much room for evaluation for the opening night pairings, theyll figure that out through practice and probably will be a bit of the story line through the begining of the season.

  12. Carrying 11 forwards and 7 defenders to start the season, tells me defense is making a harder argument on who is the odd man out. Walman/Seider, Petry and Gostisbehere are the only ones I think are locked in, the remaining 3 are gonna be on rotation until injury happens.
