Las Vegas, Nevada — Forward Jeff Skinner of the Carolina Hurricanes won the Calder Memorial Trophy at the 2011 NHL Awards.
Logan Couture and Michael Grabner were also nominated.
The Calder is awarded annually to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the NHL.

@andrewkillify The Calder is dealt to the best rookie, regardless of the calibre of the team. Just because Couture's *team* made it to the playoffs, doesn't mean that *he* was better. You're entitled to your opinion, though.
@friskie1986 definitely a close race, but i think couture deserved it more. Skinner had 2 great aspects that helped him win, points and age. Couture was san jose's best two-way forward, 2nd in rookies in points and goals, 1st in rookies in game winning goals (broke/tied a rookie record for that) 1st in powerplay goals(rookies), 4th in the NHL in road goals, over 50% on faceoffs, a trusted penalty killer, and w/o him, san jose's wouldn't have gotten over that slump in the early season. oh well :/
