Inside today’s Locked on Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens trimmed their roster by two more names on Monday morning with Mattias Norlinder and Emil Heineman being assigned to the Laval Rocket. Scott and Laura discuss whether or not sending down Norlinder was truly the right call, and what it means for the full NHL roster ahead of their first regular season game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Also related to waivers, both Joel Armia and Gustav Lindstrom passed through unclaimed and will be assigned to the Rocket as well. Where do the veterans fit into the Rocket lineup now, or will they even stay in Laval beyond this first week of the season? The hosts discuss the possibility of further trades and Kent Hughes pulling off more magic as well.
Finally, the Rocket named their new leadership group for the upcoming season, with Gabriel Bourque officially becoming the fourth captain in franchise history. Heinaman will be called up at one point this year
Habs keeping Barron as the 7th D says to me that they have more long term hope in Norlinder and want him playing top minutes every game.
..Armia was a big part of the cup run…got paid for it..
You can say Norlinder earned a spot but whose spot does he take with Guhle, Matheson, Harris and Xhekaj ahead of him?
Armia has an upper body injury… He's got no heart.
