This sucks to hear. He’s lived a very full life of hockey but it’s crazy to think how YOUNG he was in 1993. Dude was just 37. I never appreciated that. I expected to see him be in his mid 70s now

Damn, I feel like a complete ass for mentioning how much I disliked his commentary at times. Wouldn’t never wish something like this on the guy. Parksinson’s is brutal and watching a loved one slowly deteriorate physically feels like someone is placing a weight on your chest. That’s before the mental decline that can accompany it as well.

As a kid growing up in the states pre-Internet I cannot explain how absolutely stoked I would be when I’d hear Melrose voice pop up on sports center!! Truly sad, I hope he can enjoy some peaceful years with his family.

The last time I saw him on tv he did not look or sound with it, at all. This is sad news but I can’t say I’m surprised by it
MrSCR23
I remember when he was ESPN’s only hockey guy for that stretch when they didn’t have NHL rights. Wish him the best.

Fuck, that’s awful news.

Damn. Thanks for bringing hockey as much attention as the mouse would allow.

This sucks. Barry is the face of hockey in the US. Such a great guy and a great personality.

Man I grew up with his calls. Oof.

Very sorry to hear this. I’m surprised to hear so many people mention they didn’t like his commentary. I always liked his personality and commentary. I wish him and his family the best as they navigate this terrible disease.

Extremely sad, he has a obvious true talent, thinking of him and his family
FTR_Hair
Sad news indeed.

He’s a cool dude. I sold him a vehicle once and he was super friendly. He wasn’t interested in talking much hockey – talked mostly about the ponies as he was headed down to Saratoga for the races the next day. Hopfully he can get through this, I don’t know much about the disease.

This totally blows ! I had the privilege of meeting him a bunch of times, he is really cool! I feel bad for him and his family
