Milestone Monday: Josh Morrissey Ties the Franchise Record for Career Goals by a Defenceman



On December 3, 2014, Josh Morrissey tied a Raiders’ franchise record with this empty-net goal against the Prince George Cougars as part of a three-point night.

The goal was the 60th of Morrissey’s WHL career, tying a franchise record for goals by a defenceman set by Emanuel Viveiros who patrolled the Raiders’ blueline from 1982 to 1986. Over his four seasons with the Raiders, Viveiros had 261 assists to go along with his 60 goals in 251 games played. He added another 42 points in 35 career playoff games in Prince Albert.

Morrissey suited up in 229 games for the Raiders after being selected sixth overall in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. Along with his 60 goals as a Raider, the Calgary, AB product added 119 assists for a total of 179 points in Prince Albert. He also served as team captain for two seasons.

The Winnipeg Jets selected Morrissey 13th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft.
