  1. I started to really believe in the Cup after this. -Not because we beat Pittsburgh, but because Ovie was not at all emotional after the game. His face was like: "only halfway".

  2. I'm just now realizing that if the shot that hit the post would have gone in the caps could have lost the series in game 7

  3. Hearing Ovi shout for joy as the puck goes in before anyone else realizes Kuzy scores still gets my heart rate up and adrenaline flowing every time I watch that goal

  4. The bad luck that plagued the Capitals in the playoffs for so many years seemed to turn completely around in 2018 and make no mistake about it, there was a lot of puck luck for Washington in these playoffs and this series in particular. Also, call it sour grapes or just typical garbage NHL officiating, but the refs played a huge role in deciding the outcome of this series, especially in games 2 and 3. I believe the no call on the blatant Tom Wilson cheap shot on Zach Aston-Reese in game 3 in Pittsburgh was the turning point of the series. At that time, the series was tied at 1-1 and the Pens led 2-1 in the 2nd period when Wilson, at full speed, left his skates along the boards and drove his right shoulder into Aston Reese's head, breaking his jaw. Wilson's momentum carried him into the Capitals bench and ended Aston Reese's season with no penalty called. Ridiculous! The Capitals would tie the game just over a minute later when they should have been short-handed. Wilson should have been serving a 5 minute major and a game misconduct (the league office admitted as much a few days later, thanks for nothing!) Adding insult to injury, Washington would win the game in the final minute of the 3rd on a 2 on 1 Ovechkin goal, set up by another un-called penalty on Wilson (who else?), a dirty slew foot on Pens d-man Olli Maatta. Over the past few years I've come to terms with the Capitals beating us on the way to their only Cup (I celebrated the Hurricanes win over them in last years playoffs almost as if it had been the Pens beating them. Not easy to win back to back, is it Craps?) and I console myself by looking at the 5 Stanley Cup Champions banners at the PPG Paints Arena knowing that everyone of them came with a playoff win over the Capitals included. You chumps are a long way from ever paying us back and Tom Wilson will eventually get his. He wouldn't have lasted half a season in the NHL of a generation ago when every team had a fighter and physical play was celebrated and not penalized. Every tough guy in the league would have been looking for him. With the game played and officiated the way it is today, a punk like him can run the smallest guys on the ice all night without reprisal. The few real fighters left in the league laugh at him. He was a punk in Plymouth, formally of the OHL, and hasn't changed a bit in the NHL. Maybe I'm not quite over it yet. Capitals still SUCK!!!

  5. Honestly as a caps fan. This game was the game that made me believe we could win the cup. I know Columbus was on us but man. Still can’t believe it. Haha love hockey and miss it very much. 💰

  6. I still re watch this and love to know that Shittsburgh Penguin fans cried. I can't wait to see the franchise crumble once again 🙂

  7. This has to be one of the best rivalries and doc just makes it ten times more intense and better it wouldn’t be playoffs without his voice!

  8. The Penguins are still a good squad but honestly never fully recovered after this.
They are trying to maintain a dynasty like the Red Wings and Blackhawks and its gonna hurt them in the end.

  9. Those were some games…Pens had many chances to change the outcome and go for a 3 peat but it was plainly just time for Caps to FINALLY beat us..they proved it later by winning Cup and nobody gave them a tougher test than Pens..great series though

  10. Fun fact abt the cup run for the caps
I bet a lot of ppl alr know this but the Caps won every clinching game away. Thought id share some cool info

  11. The Capitals advance to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 1998 when they went to the Stanley Cup Final. The Penguins' first playoff series loss since the 2015 NHL Eastern Conference 1st Round against the New York Rangers.
