In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the cuts to the Capitals roster today. The most surprising was Aube-Kubel who the Caps signed to a one year deal in March. Their hope is that he can get assigned to Hershey. Other notable players waived: Limoges, Sgarbossa, Snively, MccIlrath and Shepard on waivers for purpose of loan to Hershey. Later Dan talks about the Capitals victory over the Blue Jackets which was won in large part to the Capitals younger players.

I wasn't all that surprised Aube-Kubel lost his spot. Phillips just killed it this pre-season and Carbery most certainly liked what he saw from the Milano-Strome-Phillips line.
This is actually great news because if this is indeed our third line to start this coming season, then the odds of McMichael actually having secured a top-six spot just increased considerably. Fingers crossed, Protas also wins one of the final spots.
Makes you wonder with MaxPac returning relatively soon if it might be worth retaining the full 50% on Mantha and sending him somewhere for a late pick, where the acquiring team gambles on him rebounding and perhaps getting a better return for him with further retention at the deadline?
I'm shocked by the NAK waiver. I doubt he makes it down to Hershey without getting picked up. I really hope they can keep him. He's a solid player I think and id have had him on the final röster over Protas myself.
I'm really happy with the Phillips pickup. I knew a bit about him when they grabbed him and have been very excited to see what he's going to bring to the caps
one great thing about a new and young coach is he has no loyalties to the established veterans. If the rooks play well he will give them a roster spot. Not only do we need youngsters to start making the nhl roster, but they will also push the veterans to step up or lose their spot.
tonight too many errors in their own d zone in 4-2 lost. 2 on 1 3 or 4 times. same problems has year. passing out of the d zone at times not good. #1 fans since day 1 they join NHL in 1974.
