Rodion Amirov, a prospect with the Toronto Maple Leafs, passed away on Monday at the age of 21, two years after he was initially diagnosed with a brain tumor. His agency verified the news.
In a tweet announcing Amirov’s passing, Dan Milstein claimed that the hockey player “refused to speak in the negative from the moment he received the news, determined to enjoy every day, facing it with the same positive attitude he showed during his hockey career.” “From the moment he received the news, he refused to speak in the negative, determined to enjoy every day,” Milstein said.

In April of 2021, Amirov signed an entry-level contract with the team that was for three years and included an entry-level salary. Due to his treatment and subsequent recuperation, he was sidelined for the 2022–23 season.Brendan Shanahan, president of the Maple Leafs, said in a statement that the entire organization is “devastated” by Amirov’s death. He added how tragic it is to see someone of his age “with so much promise taken from us so soon.”
“Throughout the duration of his brave battle, Rodion’s positivity inspired everyone around him,” said Shanahan. “And in his brief visits to Toronto, he made lasting impressions with both our team and fans.”
