People don't understand how good he is. Part of the reason he's seen such a jump in his offensive numbers over the past few years is obviously due to his continued progression as a player (which is crazy at 33 years old), but he's always had it in him. Julien was just so focused on using him in a heavy defensive role, which he was/is obviously amazing at. But now you see Cassidy throwing him out there in the offensive zone every chance he gets, committing to playing him with the most talented players, not feeling the need to play the match-up game, letting him be the focal point of the PP, etc. He's letting him and his line dictate the play rather than having Bergeron have to shut down the other top lines and having most of his offense come from the counter-attack, and it's letting Bergeron show that he can play offensively as well as any of the other elite offensive players in the league, while still not sacrificing anything defensively.
