As cool as it would've been to have capped off the inaugural season with a SC Championship, and as hard as it was to watch Ovechkin hoist the Cup in our building, the consolation in looking back on it has been the memory of that amazing first season and how we got there more than the disappointment of getting so close only to fall short.
As fans we know how extremely lucky we are to have this team…the pain and shock of a shift in momentum that resulted in a first round playoff exit in season 2, followed by making it to the Conference Final two years in a row only to fall short of another SC Final appearance both times, and the long summer following a disappointing season 5 turned out to be a very short time of paying dues retroactively.
We are the defending Stanley Cup Champions in our 7th season. That is phenomenal!!!
It was a great game however the banners they gave for those that attended could’ve been handled better. Instead of giving everyone their stuff when they entered the arena like they normally do for games they waited till after and did it outside side in the plaza. It was chaos people line up waiting to get their banners only to be told they ran out and had to wait in another line. This happened to me twice and when I finally got one my game-day express bus had left. It was a stupid idea. A lot of people missed it and had to pay overpriced taxi/Uber/Lyft’s to get back. Whoever’s idea that was needs to be fired.
