Avalanche Hockey Is Back! Avs Make More Depth Moves. Our Stanley Cup Predictions!

The wait is officially over! Colorado Avalanche hockey returns tonight in Los Angeles as the Avs will take on the LA Kings.

But the Avs were not done dealing before their season kicks off. The Avalanche went ahead and got some more depth pieces in Ivan Prosvetov as well as a very sly move to acquire defenseman Caleb Jones from the Carolina Hurricanes.

We also discuss how we feel this season will go for the Avalanche, in are we expecting a repeat of the past couple seasons where they pick things up after the calendar changes, or should we have a more consistent season right from the beginning.

Finally, we announce our Stanley Cup predictions! You might not think you know what they are.

  1. I think the goalie plan for at least the first month with such a light schedule will be to have Prosvetov stay up with the Avs as the designated back up and then when they have a scheduled start for the back up (let's say Sat. night in San Jose) they'll play Annunen. That way he's getting regular starts in Loveland and then spot starts with the Avs. Then come mid November they get a better idea on Frankie and decide if you want to keep Annunen up full time then or leave Prosvetov there.

  2. No offense, Shaggy, because you're not the only one, but I think a lot of people are a little too high on NJ. Playoffs? Definitely. But there are too many good teams in the East with a lot more experience. I'm picking Carolina.

Out West, I think a lot of people are a little high on Dallas. They've got some good players but the big off-season add is Duchene? Way too streaky. They'll be about the same as last year. Maybe slightly worse due to the advancing age of Benn, Seguin, Pavelski, and Duchene.

Avs over Canes in 6. And game 6 will be a home game for the Avs.

  3. Shaggy I totally agree with NJ being a cup favorite although.. I see the hurricanes beating them in ECF and the avs beating the oilers or stars so avs vs canes SCF

  4. Chi vs. Det
Lol jk, im feelin Avs vs. Nj. Goaltending is the big question right now for jersey but i like their offense. Also, that Chi comeback Tuesday night was a gosh darn trip. 😂
    Go Avs!

  5. New Jersey is my favorite eastern team but no way are they contenders,i mean we just watched the Avs go through this same discussion every year and every year we had to get our hearts ripped out before we could win

  6. Chris and Kylie will be disappointed with the losing streaks of the Avalanche this upcoming season not due to injuries but more to lines 2 to 4 NOT being productive. As a result, Avalanche will only finish with 90 poibts just missing the playoffs. So the Stanley Cup finals will be the Carolina Hurricane versus Edmonton Oilers. A TV ratings nightmare .

  7. So, if/when Cal Burke gets called up and sent down by the Carolina Hurricanes… what happens there? He has to make a trip every day?

  8. Pittsburgh, no way. Too old, and it showed last night against Chicago. I predict Edmonton and Carolina. I'm not sold on Dallas, and Vegas can't be counted out. The Avs will be there, but the second and third lines are too much of an unknown quality, for me at least, and goaltending worries me as well. The Avs can't afford a slow start. Too many good teams in the West. Oilers win the cup.

  9. Can't wait for tonight! I'm a fan of "cautious" optimism but I think it's justified to be straight up optimistic about this team, this year. Unless we have a similar string of devastating injuries (such bad luck seems unlikely two years in a row), and/or every single pickup proves to be a bust (statistically improbable), there's a lot of reason to be excited for this season. Bring it on!
Dallas is good but I'm not seeing why they are thought to be stronger than the Avs, and I see Colorado winning the division, maybe not going away, but not coming down to the last game of the season either.

  10. The Jones contract is indeed $775K. Decent move for sure to add a guy with a good chunk of NHL experience to fill in on the blue line when needed. There’s also a reason he’s making just over league minimum. Probably the most debated stat in hockey but he’s been in the minus on the +/- each season he’s been in the NHL. Regardless, good depth move.

Also, gotta love Peyton on MNF stating that the Avs were just being nice and borrowing Vegas the cup for a year 😂

    Here we go. LFG Avs!

  11. Funny how many people think that you win a Stanley Cup rolling 1 or 2 lines and being great on the power play. And yes, I’m pointing a finger at all the people who have picked Edmonton because of bland-man McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Oh, and screw the Leafs.

  12. Prosvetov seems to me more a backup for Annunen than for Georgiev – weird. I hoped for Martin Jones as a backup for Georgiev. Tonight's game will be a tough one, the Kings are a good team, hope the Avs click tonight. Kyle picks the same final I picked and funny that Chris picks PIT because I have them missing the playoffs again. #GoAvsGo
