Patrick Johnston on why the Canucks won’t play a skater short Saturday, on the Boeser-Miller-Di Giuseppe being a shutdown line, on the contributions of new guy Lafferty. And Patrick proves he’s not a very good curser.

  1. So if we have that many teams not able to be under the cap do we not see that maybe this system isn't working ? Can we maybe extend the date to be under the cap to somewhere near the end of october maybe ?

PS the flu isnt always an indication that a player will have a tough game….I think many of us old fans recall how we'd roll our eyes wondering how bad it was gonna be against the Canucks whenever we'd hear that Wayne Gretzky had the flu

  2. As a long time Canuck fan coming back year after year for more & more abuse was like Stockholm Syndrome addiction to crack cocaine & a love affair for his drug dealer. After watching this game I thought my Abusers were under new management? Look, one Edmonton loss is nothing compared to the embarrassment of years of Canuck losses. With Toch, Sergei Goncgar, Adam Foote & the Sedin twins behind the scenes, I know the Canucks will make the playoffs this year & the Oilers will bounce back fine.

  3. owns owwwwns i dont care who owns the chiefs i ate it ear my allergies to this place make me sick puke blahhh like that! demko pulling a dennis lemiuex last night

  4. Boeser is standing where Horvat used to and he's a better goal scorer. Lafferty can take face offs but he is not a center.

  5. Edmonton didn't have intensity, but nucks also got every bounce.

Dreaming in Technicolor, but can they get back from the road trip at NHL. 500.

  6. 8:35 I mean c'mon, if he played 50 minutes or so dehydrated, still made some great saves and his positioning was on point, imagine him feeling good out there?

12:45 I seem to remember this being a Torts mantra a few years ago, though the team didn't bother. I noticed it a LOT last night. Their sticks were in the way a lot, and not only that, they were poking pucks away in the O and N zones too. It's frustrating playing against a team that does this. I now, because it's how I play floor hockey and my stick work irritates guys on the other team… lol

14:38 That's pretty great though, knowing how the team played in spite of missing Soucy, Blueger and even Mikheyev (who isn't sick, but still building back up to having a game-ready knee).

15:22 Not gonna lie. I sort of panned this trade as simply being a depth move and didn't expect him to be a regular in the lineup. Of course, that remains to be seen, but given there were at least two forwards missing, that opened the door for him to jump in, and jump he did. Speed kills.

17:33 I think it was someone from the media who asked McDavid about the Canucks rolling out their first PP line later in the game. I'm actually getting pretty tired of this "why keep playing hard?" attitude from some people. Whoever is claiming that professional sports is about NOT hurting the feelings of the other team is not fit to be a sports reporter. If I'm the coach of an NHL team up by a touchdown, I'm not telling them to let up.

18:16 I wouldn't expect anything less from the Oil on Saturday night. They have some homework to do but they're professionals (I think?) and will very likely see the error in their ways. Canucks are in for a battle.

It's just one game, but when at least two team records were set in stone in one game, it's nice when it's the Oilers on the short end of the stick for once.
