Brilliant
a bit like the notion of commentary should be done a certain way, still after lockdown, these candid chats about other than the subject matter and delving into other veins of sports matters is great.
Different sport but one of my favourite parts of F1 commentary is when the commentators say 'lets just listen here' and they take a back seat for 30 seconds
Please tell me this means you finally got Andrew Cotter on for Golf Weekly too?
What a great guest, funny and interesting.
Very enjoyable interview!
Comfortably odd man LOL
I strongly agree with Mr. Cotter's opinion on American tennis commentators. Virginia Wade's sparse commentary was so refreshing, when she was hired some years back.
Whenever I listen to CONSTANT commentary I picture them sitting in the booth with a piece of paper handed to them by the station and checking off the different stats their suppose to say. Give me moments of silence to experience being there anytime.
Love the Olive & Mabel side of Andrew C; but his commentaries when England play his ‘anybody but England’ Scots attitude surfaces.
Captive audience yes, Andrew, BUT FUNNY! People would watch regardless.
I loved this. Watched the whole thing. Interesting and frankly, I like to watch golf too. But, I am old so there you go.
If only more commentators had Andrew Cotter's professional attitude to commentating, where less is more. COTTER FOR SKY F1
Very refreshing, especially the silences. Contrast to Radio 5 Live football now, where they have introduced a stat-man, who just overloads us (and I used to be a stat-man, certainly at university!) and the other broadcasters then feel the need to compete with their own stats (mostly meaningless); it has spoilt the radio football experience.
Irish-American, NY, here for the dogs. 🤗🐾💖
loved Murray Walker's F1 commentary and Bill McLaren's 5 nations … irreplaceable
What does Andrew Cotter say at 5.00?
Loved AC's comments re building your own audience instead of relying on a broadcaster's opinion whether it should go to air or not.
People worldwide are making their decisions – Like / Follow etc
If you haven't bought his book, "Olive, Mabel & Me", buy it. You'll love it. Maybe I'm biased because we HAD two Lab Crosses, you'll love the book.
Totally agree with AC about the need for silence. But I also wish commentators would just commentate on what's happening on the pitch. All too often the commentator is obviously reading stats from some sheet or iPad, but they are missing the action! So by the time they've turned their eyes back to the pitch, the try has been scored/missed. Not just rugby, but football also. And another rant, in rugby we have the privilege of hearing the referee. So why not let us hear what he's saying? Stop commentating!
I kept laughing at the non stop talking about the importance of silence in commentary. I love Andrews’s commentary, good to see him at the borders book festival last week.
Commentary….All I could hear was the biliousness of Drury :/
Fascinating interview, topped off perfectly by the guest star at the end.
