Leafs fan here, oilers just woke up wayyyyy too late. Matthews and Marner have had the same problem in previous years in their season openers against Montreal. Canucks have every reason to want to win, Oilers had every reason to believe it would be easy against the Canucks. Just a combination of factors, not an indictment of any particular player or coach (other than maybe Darnell Nurse who I thought had a particularly bad night). The oilers (like the leafs over the past 19 years) have been more focused on the playoffs than any actual accomplishment otherwise, this can be good and bad and the other night we saw the bad. Oilers are still one of the best teams in the league and unless their defence and goaltending collapses this year, I canโt see them as anything less than a conference finalist. Fact is, itโs just one game and while it was demoralizing for Edmonton fans to lose in such a humiliating fashion, knowing McDavid, the Oilers will come back stronger and faster than before.

It was the canucks ahl team that lost 10-0 but ok. The captain is Quinn not Jack.
Canucks iced an AHL team in that loss against Calgary who pretty much had a full roster.
