The Complete Tage Thompson | The First Of His Kind | 22-23 Highlights

Full, indexed highlights of hockey’s most unique superstar, Tage Thompson, and his breakout 47 goal, 94 point 22-23 season.

If you’re like most hockey fans, Tage Thompson might have fallen under your radar only a couple short years ago. While highly touted as a prospect, it was understood that it would likely take a few years before he grew accustomed to his large frame and was able to make use of it. In his first season he scored 9 points, then 12. Injuries derailed his third season and he even spent time in the minors, before returning with 14 points in season four. In season five he broke out, potting 38 goals and scoring 68 points.

But the hulking forward from the hockey hotbed of Phoenix, Arizona, wasn’t finished. Because this season, he broke out again, scoring 47 goals and matching that mark in assists for a total of 94, cementing an entry into the game’s very elite. In many ways, his rise is most similar to that of a young Todd Bertuzzi, who came seemingly out of nowhere to become the best player in hockey for a spell.

Watching Thompson, it’s difficult to place any limits on what he can ultimately accomplish. He has a reach like no other, great speed, a shot that’s as lethal and accurate as any, and an incredibly soft and deceptive pair of hands.

The only thing missing in Thompson’s game is a bit more of a physical edge. He could use that frame to greater effect, as Todd Bertuzzi once did, to ‘gently’ pull and prod on opponents as he’s overtaking them. That doesn’t seem to be his game, though, and that’s alright. He’ll play longer and stay out of the penalty box, and might—just might—elevate his play to where he’s the most dominant forward in the game. It really could happen.

  1. Great video, as usual. There’s something about watching tall players that can skate and have finesse that really makes you appreciate hockey on a different level.

  2. His dangling is crazy. Can move the puck by 6 feet + cuz of his wingspan in a milisecond, taking the defender completely out of position

  3. I think we're looking at a potential top-5 player in the league in Tage Thompson. He's dangerous from virtually everywhere on the ice, whether he's dangling his way through traffic or ripping lasers from the top of the circle. It's almost impossible to take the puck from him with his size and reach, and it's often that he ends up drawing penalties from getting tripped up. Last year he proved that he is a very effective playmaker as well. With Buffalo having a growing arsenal of talented young players, Thompson has no shortage of players to dish to. I can see him putting up consecutive 50-50 goal/assist seasons and potentially winning the Hart Trophy in the future.

  4. Easily one of my favorite channels on YouTube. Keep up the great work appreciate the videos.

  5. He reminds me so much of Troy Terry, except he's huge and has a cannon one timer.

  6. I love how you include clips from non-goal plays. That is what makes this the best NHL highlight channel on YouTube

  7. What’s crazy is that he used a really short stick for his height so that he can be more nimble with his stick handling and move the puck and his hands closer to his body. But imagine his reach out there jf he used a stick for his height…

  8. If I sent a bunch of clips would u do a datsyuk one? You’re so good a this stuff I think it could be really good.

  9. Your videos are very well done and a treat to watch. Anytime you make a video they become my new favorite player. Your choice of players to highlight is awesome as well.

What do you do to get all these clips? Do you watch every game fully for a player?

  10. Crazy how Thompson scores and power celebrates. They look like 2 6 foot 1 guys until Skinner comes in a whole head shorter.
