Boston Bruins blank New York Rangers: 3 Stars – Brandon Bussi, Matt Poitras, the fans!

The Boston Bruins began the preseason with a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers, and host Ian McLaren is awarding his three stars of the game.

1) Brandon Bussi made 29 saves for the shutout, including an early save of the eyar candidate. He sure seems ready for more NHL action, but finds himself firmly behind linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman on the depth chart.

2) Matt Poitras recorded a goal and an assist in his NHL preseason debut. He’s certainly impression Bruins brass, but is it enough to stick with the team all season long? Maybe not with Johnny Beecher seemingly ready to make the jump.

3) The Bruins are back, and so are the fans, even after last year’s heartbreak. Stick tap to you all for being in midseason form.

  1. Luck is preparation meeting opportunity.
Left handed, Bussi's going to confuse some players. We're not accustomed to seeing the glove pop out the right side of the goal. And neither are most hockey players. That also may have been his edge.

He and Jeremy are both USA trained collegiate goalies, no international experience. I don't see B's keeping both down the line.

Bussi's height, left handedness, makes him very distinct from Swayman.

I understand it's complicated, but he can't play more than 10 NHL games before going through waivers or whatever?

It's best to keep a hot goalie playing, starting in the AHL, not warming a bench, opening a door for hockey players.

We still need that 1C. We'll see what happens with a goalie. Jeremy he's put himself in a position where he has trade value-let's see what he's got coming off an intense summer of training.

Meanwhile, ullmark goes nowhere. He's been stealing games since before he came to the NHL,

$5.mil is pennies? Jennings award goalie tandem for less than $9mil?

I don't understand why fans would even consider trading Linus in his prime.

He plays 2 positions, goalie & a third defenseman.

Great start for these Young guns. Now double up the speed and get ready for hits twice as hard!

    Go Bs!

  2. I remember a time when every one sad Pasternack who? My fantasy hockey would be that a young kid comes along again by the name of Poitras who. It's probably noy in the cards but who'da'thunk Paster was gonna turn out to be a franchise player within 2 years. I would have expected Fabian to be that guy but that isn't happening right now. To dream…perchance to dream. GO IAN!!!!

  3. Swayman's one year deal may not be repeated next year. Eventually Swayman will want to be a starter somewhere. Bussi would be ready.

  4. Bussi was incredible. He had a career day. I would really like to see him in a few some games that count.
