Interesting discussion. But the west embracing Saudi to prevent them turn east is more likely to work in reverse: the financial dependency will make the west more likely to be at the beck and call of the Middle East.

Is everybody walking around in clould cuckoo land in the UK??? When our 'celebrities' start shoehorning the term 'sportswashing' into conversations because a country on the other side of the world may not be the best olace for them to retire to, lets not forget that the UK government and BAE (who employ a lot of UK citizens) has sold 20 billion (YES BILLION) pounds worth of arms to our Saudi friends to wage a war against Yemen (which is currently a pile of rubble and never reported by our state sponsored media BBC). So when the likes of Fry twists on that his PERSONAL situation isnt compatible in Saudi culture, lets not forget, the Saudis keep a lot of british tradesmen in jobs!
