  1. Should have picked these guys:
JVR, Domi, Tarasenko, Stecher (RHD, established D man, puck-mover, cheap, fairly young at 27, from the Pacific Northwest). That instead of the guys taken from those teams would have been so much better. Then you'd have a good top 6 and still be well under the cap. You could even trade one of them for a high draft pick or a downgrade of a player that's more affordable and a lower draft pick, and have room for UFAs with more total value. Bean as well. There were some obvious picks that just needed to happen to be a serious playoff team off the bat and they flubbed it. They might squeak into the playoffs still, but won't be that strong.

  2. Might be the worst team in the history of Hockey and no free agents are going near that team. Seattle is the Winnipeg of the US, no one wants to go there no matter how much money you pay them.

  3. Hot Take: Lou Lamorello was smart leaving Eberle and Bailey unprotected, first they got rid of 5.5 mil in cap space and second they are always going after the big name winger free agents but, they never had a spot for them in the top 6, now they do

  4. The GMs might have put one over on Francis, but, Francis also put one over on The GMs. He stuck The GMs with Their Big Contracts

  5. I was kind of surprised with the picks but idk ig we’ll see if this is a win now team or if they want to purposely tank. Especially if you look at the next two draft classes I can see why they would want to tank because they would get the chance to draft some inane prospects

  6. I don't think that they did that bad. I kinda like the route they went by picking a lot of young promising players, because let's be real, most exposed players are either young and haven't made a name for themselves in the NHL yet, are already close to the end of their career or are just on way too big contracts for their performance.
Taking older star players only really makes sense if you think you could repeat what Vegas did and be a contender in year 1, which is very unlikely.

And getting guys on way too big contracts is just really bad in general.
They got good players from teams that are so stacked that they had to expose some good players like the Avs with Donskoi and filled it up with young hungry players who want to prove themselves. Now make some trades and sign some big names in free agency and it should be a solid team.

Maybe they could've picked some of the older guys just to trade them to contenders and get a little bit more out of it, but all in all I dont think they did that bad.

  7. Let’s see what side deals they made to take some of these guys who will play on their farm

  8. Smart moves by Francis. Not only did he get some solid NHL players off the expansion draft, but he'll hit a couple of home runs in free agency. He didn't take anyone else's cap problems either. There were a few GM's hoping Francis would take some contracts of their hands. One of them being Jim Benning.

  9. I stopped the video review when you said they missed out on talent like Subban lmao wtf are you smoking. He's been bad for a couple years now

  10. I disagree. They are off to a great start. Lots of defense to move for picks, and lots of cap space to sign a center or two. They have a really good d-core and 2 good goalies. They are also huge and are going to be annoying to play against. Don't count this team out, especially since they are in a weak division.

Also, there's no chance Oleksiak isn't playing on the final roster. No chance.

  11. The only RFA they really need to re-sign that will get a $2-$3M contract is Vince Dunn. Everyone else is a league minimum RFA.

  12. Great analysis, while all this was breaking I was thinking WTH are they doing? I was waiting for side deals. Hopefully they are going to make a splash in free agency

  13. well they still have loads of cap space obviously, idk why ppl act like this is the roster they are gonna ice in the first game.

  14. Seattle must be happy you didn't pick the team. Over paid players you can't be moved is a losing formula. Cap and patience is gold.

  15. Would rather let Leddy go than Cholo, Leddy’s 30, not part of the future. Cholowski still has high potential (not that Seattle will be able to develop his potential)

  16. Not sure what to say about Ron Francis's choices so far. It'll be interesting to see what he does when free agency comes around.

  17. I think they did alright. Lot of teams will be looking for affordable defensemen and bottom 6 forwards, which the Kraken are loaded in them, so they have a lot of cap space, lots of trading chips available teams will be interested in acquiring, this team will look a whole lot better come October if Francis plays his cards right.

  18. The players who appeared on stage are the only ones locked in.
Rest of the players have the risk of trade imo.
That's why I was hoping they picked up Price and traded him back for like 2/3 solid guys + draft pick as an added fee.

  19. I'm not sure what the heck people are talking about on here because THIS roster is impressive! Consider the following:
    * A d-core that EASILY ranks top 4 in the NHL (not just 5 or 6, but SEVEN d-men who are top 4 calibre, that's insane!)
    * A goalie tandem that is EASILY in the top half of the league!
    * An impressively young, cheap, and hungry base of forwards who will be added to once Seattle starts adding through free agency & using those extra defensemen for trades…

    What does Seattle still need:
–> Upgrade their top line with 2 top line ''all-star level'' forwards (keeping Eberle on the first, pushing Gourde, Donskoi & McCann to the 2nd making for a crazy impressive roster all of a sudden)…
–> I'd personally start shipping one or two of those extra d-men for draft picks because in 2yrs this team is going to be hurting with all the short-term contracts they have right now. They need to get top picks in their system within the next 2yrs or else they'll fizzle out and won't be able to keep adding to their own team depth…

    Predictions:
    * IF they do get 1 or 2 elite level forwards to join this club, then i predict a 6th-8th place finish in the conference (making the payoffs)…they'll probably lose in the first round to one of the top 4 teams (VGK, COL…etc) but they'll put teams on notice of how tough this team is to play against.

Kudos to the Kraken…it's going to be a fun season!

  20. I think they go after Schwartz, Hamilton, and maybe trade for someone like Kutz. Then trade some of those DMen for picks and players to fill out the bottom 6

  21. Khakhonen was the big miss, both him and Daccord are waiver exempt, so they couldve drafted both. A few dmen will be moved- they cant protect 30 spots from waivers, so some of those contracts will be dealt for picks/prospects.=
Suprised they didnt take Tarasenko and/or Niederreiter as well- even if they ate some of the salary and traded them for picks only.
