What should the Ottawa Senators do with Mathieu Joseph? : Discussion | Coming in Hot

Based on his performance throughout these first three games, should the Ottawa Senators still consider trading Mathieu Joseph?

Wally & Yorkie discuss that scenario.

  1. Trade Joseph. He gets points when on the 1st or 2nd lines only. Those days are about to go away. Then you are stuck paying 2.95 million for a 3rd/4th liner getting 12pts in 82 games.

  2. Trade him …he is playing hard at the moment but last year? Often invisible, same with Batherson no good defensively lacks intensity and isnt scoring, sign Pinto

  3. Of course we need to trade Joseph.
And yes we need a right shot D!

(Branny is an afterthought due to his contract. Not a problem).

  4. I would have put Norris on lTIR at the start of the bloody season… let him get 100 percent, 10 games is not that long and the pinto problem is solved

  5. The SENS don't understand it doesn't matter WHO they can trade (Joseph, Kubalik, Brannstrom, etc) other teams KNOW they have leverage and therefore no trade will garner fair trade value for whoever they're trading… So in trading Joseph or Kubalik will require at minimum a first round pick or top prospect in return and no trade will garner fair market value of what players WOULD HAVE or SHOULD HAVE been worth… This is what Ottawa's GM is being so stubborn and not accepting… Unfortunately in this case they just have to bite the bullet and choose the option that is less of two undesirable alternatives but what CANNOT happen is just prolonging the obvious hoping and praying that the status quo asking prices will drop which they will NOT!!! Let's see how long the can foolishly continue to play short-handed!!!

  6. As far as cap mgmt, was tarasenko added because the Sens were worried about losing batherson over the hockey canada matter? But they haven’t lost him and they’ve ended up playing it too tight with the cap.

  7. I agree that you trade Branstrom. He's your 4th best left shot defensemen age 26 or under; he just isn't going to have a chance to break in and you can't afford to pay someone in that role 2 million, especially when Tyler Kleven showed very well in his limited NHL action last year. I think he still has top 4 potential, just not on this team so he has more value to another team. However I think you trade Kubalik over Joseph. This team does not have very many forwards that have strong defensive play. I don't feel great about Joseph's defense, but I think it is a good deal better than Kubalik's. Plus Kubalik is mainly a shooter and you already have lots of elite shooters in Norris, Pinto, Tarasenko, Batherson, Stu… I think some playmaking ability may actually round out the lineup better.
