Blackouts are completely out of hand

Can sombody explain why I, a 26 year old student from Newfoundland who just wants to sit back and watch a game, can only watch the game in Vancouver, literally a continent away. It’s absolutely obscene that, depending on the night, I will be blocked out from both Toronto and Montreal games, despite living a flight or a 32 hour drive away.

The NHL is trying to drive people to use… er, nevermind, they don’t have a solution at all, apparently they just don’t want people to watch the sport.

  2. Being blocked from Toronto and Montreal games, sounds like they’re doing you a favor ….

  3. Only-Worldliness2364

    Itā€™s really fucking random.

Iā€™m in Northern BC; tonight I can watch Van at TB or Edm at Phi. Cgy at Buf is blacked out LOL

  4. PossessionGlad4638

Y’all need to get Hulu for all other games, then learn how to stream for your team.

This has been a thing for us Avs fans for literally YEARS

NHL hasnā€™t figured out that piracy skyrockets when the legit media isnā€™t available. People are literally willing to pay money, and the NHL still promotes piracy instead.

  6. It’s so fucking frustrating… I’d gladly give money to the league if they gave me an easy, reliable way to stream games. Until then they will get nothing from me and I’ll continue to illegally stream šŸ–•

  7. Miracl3Work3r

It would be terrible for you to Sport Surge your way to enjoying those NHL games.

  8. sakuniemi

I live in Minnesota and I can watch every single game of any team every night…

Again Matey, as ye be learninā€™ we were all once law abidingā€™ folk, driven into the cruel Dark Waters, taking to plunder, all to satisfy our needs that weā€™d happily pay a Kings Ransom to anyone that actually fulfill our simple needs!!

We Fly the Death Flag because we were given no real choice!!

Remember when we bought pay per view games with blackouts?šŸ¤£

  11. You know what’s not out of hand?

Avast ye matey! Come sail the high seas! Endless games for ye ta see! Yarrrrr-har!

  12. SurfSpecificFitness

NHL is already such an under exposed sport, you wonder why hockey has a drastically smaller fan base than baseball, basketball, football, soccer… STOP DOING THIS SHIT YOU GREASEMONKEY TV COMPANIES

  13. OrnamentalVirus

Private subscriptions are out of hand. Almost one for every NHL team. The Demon Gary Bettman must be stopped

  14. Tux_Ralphie

This is why I don’t bother trying to pay for it anymore, I’d rather deal with popups from you know what then pay for blackouts.

  15. b_levautour

Eh, as a recent transplant to Tennessee who was considering making the Preds my third-tier preference, the blackouts just make me understand that the team doesnā€™t want my support. Lol

  16. wild_Witch_

That’s why we no longer support or buy team merchandise for 5 teams. Now it’s just 1.

  17. BronzeBackWanderer

Is New Foundland really 32 hours from Toronto by car? I would have figured 10 tops.

  18. MapleSyrupKintsugi

I paid for one year and got this way too much so I stopped doing it. Iā€™d rather not watch

  19. How can we get our voices heard? Not that they give a fuck about what we have to say anyway.

  20. HockeyShark91

The Least Expensive TV Package that allows me to get Sharks games, ESPN, and TNT is $119 a month. I don’t want cable, I don’t have cable. Definitely not at that price. So no Hockey for me. NHL is screwing up.

  21. sir_meowsin

I haven’t paid to watch a game since I got a blackout on the rangers game playing edmonton in the calgary region. Cancelled the next fucking day

  22. Few-Quiet-283

My friend please donā€™t pay for everything use NHL 66 or NHL Reddit Streams as a fellow student i understand your plight

  23. prowhiteboy64

  25. Randy_Butternubs666

As an aside, I was on a work trip about 4 years ago that took me to St. John’s Newfoundland and was absolutely blown away by the natural beauty (got to visit Cape Spear), the beauty of the city, the friendliness of the people, the amazing seafood (Bernard Stanley) . . . all of it. One of the best work trips I’ve ever been on. Really, really want to get back there when I’m not working to explore more.

  26. _petasaurus_

Sportsnet is your friend here. I can watch any Canadian teamā€™s games. They even do certain games that donā€™t involve Canadian teams, but overallā€¦ā€¦not that many.
