Seems like a random game to bring this up but once again… the Buch trade.

This team is literally dying for top 6 wingers. Kakko and Laf are not those guys. Buch still being here pushing Laf into a supportive third line role that Wheeler and not a guy we need to actually produce fixes so many of this teams problems.

  2. kiddocontay

bad game. meh…it happens. onto Seattle on saturday night.

    My two takeaways from tonight:

Bread is playing some elite level hockey so far this season.

And even when he’s had a rough night, there are only 3 guarantees in life. Death, Taxes, and Adam Fox scoring a point on the power play.

  3. 8teamparlay

Quick was a pleasant surprise tn. Other than that I mean, outside of a handful of players this team sucks lol. Our goalie and handful of players are good enough to get us to the playoffs where maybe Igor can pull of some magic, but there’s no depth here.

im really not trying to overreact to 4 games….. but god laf sucks. He sucks!!!!!! Kakko is more like a great third line player and chytil is not a 2c. Get Kane, call up othmann, whatever you have to do idek, we can’t keep doing this every year…..

Wheeler and bonino are so cooked.

I will say i felt this way back at the beginning 2013-14 w AV, but I just don’t know. Hopefully a west coast road trip is what we need to gel and play away from the city for a bit.

    LGR

Edit: I meant overreact about making the playoffs and being good. Laf and chytil aren’t too 6 players, kakkos a fine complementary piece on L1. God I hope I fucking eat crow but im losing my mind that we are wasting year after year trying to force these guys on the top 6. This team does not have the depth to support laf and Kakko getting sub 40 points a piece.

  4. Main_Paramedic_2822

Remember when Zibanejad used to score? Feels like ages ago.

  5. TooManySaws

    Two big issues:

    1. You never know which team will show up on any given night. When they’re on, they’re solid with sustained pressure. When they’re not, they absolutely stink.

    2. Did they not review in camp what offside means? Three goals disallowed in two games because they weren’t paying attention. Sloppy. Lav needs to address this mess.

  6. relative_iterator

I’m treating these first 4 games as preseason since the next 5 are too late to watch. Real season starts when they get back east and they better be fucking ready 😩

  7. mbsmilford

Played like crap. Last game before long road trip and first game back ate usually not good.

  8. trumpetarebest

positive takeaway for anyone who needs it: quick might not be as washed as we thought!

  9. New_Capital3267

I’m kind of losing faith in the vets. They don’t get up for rivalry games, they take the preseason off even when playing the team that came back on them after being down 2-0 (also our biggest rivals), and they take games against bad teams for granted leaving Igor exposed and hurting his confidence/stats.

You’d think this team was a fucking dynasty the way our vets take games off. If Crosby didn’t get hurt against us two years ago Mika and Panarin would be viewed as absolute frauds.

  10. Grouchy-Power-806

4 games in and I already am confused as to why we changed coaches. Looks like the same shit.

  11. I think every player hurt my soul that game. Mika and his unscreened slapshots from way out on the PP that lead to absolutely nothing are atrocious.

What does Trocheck even do on the PP? Nobody passes to him in that spot and I can’t even remember the last time he scored from there (not counting the tip the other game).

  12. Didn’t like that one. But if we watch tape and do the exact opposite, things will look good.

Also, goalies didn’t actually play bad. Which really speaks to how discombobulated the team defense was.

  13. I_Need_Scissors___61

I would be so mad if I wasn’t getting a threeway in 2 days

  14. Any team can lose on any given night, but that was passive and tbh a little disturbing. If you watch Vegas or Boston play they’re on a different level. Also the kids aren’t rookies anymore. Like this is KK’s 4th year. If he scores 14 goals this year and Laf scores 17 can we just admit we failed on 2 picks on move on? Kakko especially looks routinely overmatched. Chytil should be fine. Quick looked good

  15. Envelopen

Didnt get to watch too much after the first but ultimately we let this one get out of reach too fast, didnt play the neutral zone well and didnt generate the right pressure til the third. The only positives i took away is quick didnt allow any goals, and we made a correct adjustment at then end.

  16. Swindler30

View from 212. Absolutely 0 life shown up and down the lineup. Millers gotta start meditating or somethin, needs to wake the fuck up. Cuylle was the only one who stood out to me, always movin his feet and actin like he wants to be there. I actually though laffy was hurt during the game that’s how invisible he was. Quick was solid, nice to get his feet wet. Igor left out to dry like usual. Lavs got some work to do

  17. Nashville isn’t pushovers. They’re the kind of team you don’t want to trail with. Like the isles, they’re good at defense and limiting chances. That said Rangers need secondary scoring. If the kids lay an egg this season, it’s going to be rough goings.

  18. duckets615

Guys, this one is on me. I wore the same jersey twice in a row. I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking violating my own superstition.

  19. TheIncredibleHork

    The Hork’s View from 222

    * For anyone visiting the Garden this season, they’re trying out some new kind of security screening. Bags still go through the X-ray machine and you go through a standard magnetometer, but there are also other scanners that don’t require you to empty your pockets. If you pass (by whatever metric they have, there may be biometric data they take/use) you go right through. If you don’t, you do the standard magnetometer walk through.
    * Pretty quiet night in the garden, at least in this section. 225/226 were trying to get the crowd going all night.
    * Early on we looked ok. Tying up people in the middle, trying to keep the zone clear on defense. But eventually kinda fell apart.
    * It actually felt like the team kinda didn’t care after a while. I have to bring out [this old meme](https://imgur.com/MWZpExz.jpg) to show the point.
    * I do not like Trocheck and Goodrow in the penalty kill. They are disastrous. Honestly, Trocheck has not looked good this year at all. It’s early, I get it. Patience will be had, but I liked Vesey better like last year.
    * The third line was rather rough as well. I like Cuylle, he’s definitely giving it all he has out there. Wheeler seemed like not so much. And I think somehow he was getting swapped with Panarin in the third now and then. Could just have been line catch-up after special teams.
    * Speaking of, still very happy with Bread’s play overall. I think it was his shot that was ohsodamnclose off the crossbar. Kakko is also playing well all things considered.
    * Miller had a *terrible* giveaway after one power play that ended with a goal against. Wow that was bad, but very on brand for this game. Passes were not good.
    * Karaoke Cam (I want it that way) was about the liveliest the crowd got until the 5 on 3.
    * Refs were GARBAGE. From the call against Fox in the first until the 5 on 3, the refs were **VERY** times against us. Chris Rooney (#5) especially it seemed to me, plenty of times stuff happened in front of him and he turned a blind eye. Crowd was starting to get really pissed. The 5 on 3 probably avoided a riot.
    * As far as power plays, PP1 continued to look solid overall, and PP2 looks like they’ve rarely ever played. Which… They haven’t… So I can’t fault them for that. It makes me appreciate the season opener when Laviolette put them out there at the end to just get experience.
    * The Fox goal was a very lucky redirect. This is exactly why you put them on goal, you never know what will happen.
    * Third period the team actually looked like they cared a little more. Again, very on brand “Rangers play 1/3rd of a game” situation.
    * Trocheck’s taken back goal was hilarious, and a very lucky bounce. It’s a shame it was taken back.
    * There was more pressure in the 3rd for sure, but in the end, just not enough. Just a damn shame.
    * On a positive note, Quick looked good. I think he benefited from a team that said “Oh shit, we left Igor out to dry” and tried harder, but regardless of that he still held his own.

I know I’m being very negative, and I’m sure a lot of others are too. But like I said, it is early on the season and maybe this was just a game where they were unprepared and under a new system. It’s a long season and we’ll have these derp’d games. We’ll get through it and adjust.

    Here’s looking towards 80-2-0.

  20. chachi415

Not the best game but not our night. Forget, move on, be better

  21. jkman61494

Could you have 4 more different games to start a season? That’s my takeaway.

Dominant AF win, Dominant AF but lose, look uneven but win, look absolutely disinterested in playing and get boat raced. Like…. huh?

  22. DanTheMortgageMan

This team is excruciatingly slow. It’s obvious they just can’t keep up with a lot of teams. I’d say they are bottom 5 in terms of speed.

  23. Ok-Tomatillo-7913

They played like pros that know they have a salary at the end of the day 😂 There’s no motivation there. I don’t know what’s more pathetic – a team with zero heart beat or me paying to watch these pros hahaha fuck me, right

  24. Key-Tip-7521

Figure it out. Vally said it. They played like shit. Kreids admitted it and so did Trouba. Kreids also said this, NO ONE WAS MOVING THEIR FEET. MOVE WITH THE PUCK and you can’t give a goalie like Saros any time to retrieve the puck on a forecheck. I’ll give the Preds credit defensively. I agree w/Vally (not being an ass kisser) the Preds defensively look good plus having Saros in goal, they could be a playoff team.

Lav said clearly tonight. when you give 8 Odd man rushes, that’s unacceptable and AUH FUL. Plus you shouldn’t be doing that in the NHL and expect to win. The difference between tonights loss and the CBJ one, is that, the Rangers battled and played that North/South Game.

Tonight, complete opposite. Couldn’t go north/south, no ozone time. But more importantly, sloppy, sloppy turnovers. Key sucks defensively so far. Yes, he’s been like that last year. But shit man. But what really pained me tonight besides all of this the unselfishness. Be selfish and shoot the puck. That’s what also killed this team last year before and after the trades that must not be named. Nashville beat the Rangers by forechecking, forcing turnovers, won the board battles, puck retrieving, and better break outs. I know the Rangers can do all this.

Tonight, unacceptable. Didn’t show up at all. JQ(Quick) looked good and Fox did something. I’m frustrated after this loss. But I think OVERREACTING TO THIS GAME is a too much. So before everyone (the doomers who want a rebuild so fucking bad) decides to trade everyone away on NHL 24 to make themselves feel better and start from scratch. It’s been FOUR GAMES. Have patience. But yes, tonight was unacceptable. Could play better. I know this team can do that.

Whatever, slight rant over. EVERYONE, move on. Get sleep. Onto the Kraken. Focus on the Kraken.

  25. Quick was surprising in a good way

Wheeler needs to sit for a game

Bald head Panarin is no different

Key & Schneider with another awful, awful game

Really don’t even want to talk about Laf & Kakko. More of the same. They combine for a single point this season. Chytil also kind of sucks so far

Cuylle is an NHL player, I think he may have higher upside than what we thought as well. Him & Othmann coming up reminds me a bit of when Dubinsky & Callahan came up around the same time & added so much to the team

Our last dozen or so games have been some of the worst in Rangers history. Tonight’s game, our 2nd game this season vs CBJ, all of pre-season, & then games 4, 5, & 7 in our playoff series with the Devils.

  26. Only us get the first and second overall picks back to back and have them not live up anywhere near expectations in their 4th and 5th years…. That along with how many absurd contracts we have on our team for so many years. Think it’s all starting to catch up to us.

  27. randomusername0582

They haven’t looked great but my God are people here dramatic as hell.

The Rangers are 2-2, not 2-12

  28. electric_liberty

I was able to watch the Buffalo and Arizona game. I wasn’t able to watch the Columbus game and tonight’s game.

I’ll be available for 3 of the 4 Northwest road trip games so I expect a decent road trip.
