He could have family issues from the "Russion special operation" and is thinking about other stuff.

And to be honest, I don’t see other players dominating to Backstrom. Osh, Kuznetzov. They all playing like shit.

so … am I the only one who doesn't want to see Ovi break the goal scoring record? I have nothing against him, just don't want to see anyone breaking that record for a while.
As a cap fan who saw my first game in 1975, I have suffered through the best and the worst this team has shown. This current GM, in my opinion, has totally wrecked this team. Countless bad trades or signings and mismanagement of the cap. The Backstrom contract extension at 9M a year, I think it is, is an absolute joke that should have got GMBM fired instantly. Yeah Nick has been good for us, but 35+ yrs old doesnt warrant 9M per. A totally overpaid loyalty contract will hurt this team for years. This is a business. Im really doubting if Ovi even gets to the goal record with the teams they are going to put around him. But Ovi doesnt get a pass either (no pun intented). Both he and Backstrom couldve and shouldve taken home team discounts and left a few M on the table so they would have a few bucks to try and sign or keep some decent surrounding cast. Malkin, Letang and Crosby all took less to help the team out a little. If Backy refused to settle for 5-6M a year (oh, the horror) then we shouldve said 'thanks for your service, youre free to play somewhere else'. This team is a wreck and its been the last couple years in the making.

i’m sick and tired of all this “ovis done” talk, he didn’t score at till game 4 last season and he ended with 42, so why worry so much when we are playing montreal in our next game, every year since he turned 30 (other than 17-18) hes taken awhile to get going. ain’t that big of a deal

Hell get there he wont retire for a long time it may just take longer than we all thought he needs 73 goals if he plays 5 more years thats about 15 goals a season which is very likely
also if i were ovi i would try to shed some muscle and go down to 220lbs so he can actually skate somewhat fast again. His shot won't be as strong but he will be able to skate and get more shots.
Ovi scored his goals off of aggressive positioning and the one timer… it was rare to see him smoothly snipe a wrister or bar down snapshot… so when he loses that ability to aggressively shift his hips and even get to the one timer position… its gunna happen less and less

he will NEVER beat WG's goals record, every season he turned up and skated he was moving like the kids, this year he turned up and BOOOOOM it aint happeneing.
also people are now marking him out of the game on the PP or normal play when he would normally get a chance to score he isnt as he is being shut down.
love Ovi's scoring but how he scores hasnt changed and wont change but the game has changed, sadly Ovi is Done, i said end last season he looked tired, not uninterested just tired like he was about done
His stats have been incredible… saying it is getting ugly is a compliment in his case sorry to say. It comes for all of the best and his has come now but even then it is very mild.

…….have you not been watching him the last 3 seasons. he sits in 1 spot and takes 1 timers. hes getting older and slower and just can not keep up at all anymore. in his 40whatever goals last year next to none of them were from anything but one-timer shots and left over garbage sitting on the doorstep.

The team doesn’t look like they have a thing to play for. I know they beat Calgary but honestly, they could be a basement team if this keeps up
