The Tiger Woods hype in 1996 was undeniable, but several pros were waiting to see what the then 20-year-old really had teeing it up in the heat of competition with the best players on the planet.
Curtis Strange sat down with Tiger before his PGA TOUR debut in Milwaukee and spoke candidly about his expectations and mental approach to professional golf. That’s when the line of all lines was said.
After Tiger tells Strange, a two-time U.S. Open winner (’88 and ’89), that its in his nature to win and nothing else matters, Curtis says, “You’ll learn.” Followed by a laugh and
Fast-forward 1997. Tiger now has 4 TOUR wins, including the Masters. Curtis and Tiger meet again during the Byron Nelson in Texas, and all he can do is laugh.

All players want to win. Few do. Even fewer repeatedly do.
He learned a lot very quick.
This reminds me of that interview with Serena Williams when she was 14. She confidently said she was going to beat her opponent and interviewer asked her why. Then her dad walked in and interrupted the interview telling him to just leave it as her being confident or some shit.
TIGER⛳️💯
All he learned is that Tiger is better than he thought? That's not a recovery at all, maybe he should have said he learned to be humble despite his success or learned to be uplifting and supportive of upcoming golfers. If all he learned was that he was wrong and he took nothing else away from it, then he really didn't learn anything at all.
Eat those words. He’s shoveling them down now!
Curtis couldn’t carry Tigers bag!
Nothing wrong with believing you can win, that not Cocky or Brash.
You're looking at the GOAT dude
Curtis if you only knew now how good he was going to be. I bet you feel dumb now questioning Tiger!
That guy was HATE'N!!!! LOK
Imagine telling someone they are cocky because they say “if I could do that for three more days, i’d be very happy. A victory would be awfully nice too” as in the second thing he thought about was the possibility of winning, first he wanted to play well and be happy.. what an idiot
Curtis, you indeed are Steange. Or jealous…..
A fucking champions mentality. Win or go home back to the drawing board
Tiger mentality
Well at least he acknowledged he was wrong 😊
That's why he won more often in his prime than any pro touring player of today's calibre of players.
Strange has always been a jack towards Tiger…..
The interview was the cocky one
Tiger was such a boss.
He in fact did not learn and kept winning
Humble
Presence of a father figure played a major role in his confidence.
Tiger was the teacher…
Its a mentality
And THIS Is what eating crow looks like. Curtis how did it taste??? What did you wash it down with???
Wish Tiger would have said “I learned.. that you pros and not as good as you think.. ha ha ha… “
Curtis, your the one being cocky and brash for thinking he can’t do it.
That was a classic example of a supposed white alpha thinking a young half black man, having no place in golf and being shown different. He ate his words
Who the hell goes in thinking "I'm not going to win?"
