Michael Gerard ” Mike ” Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is a retired American professional boxer. Mike Tyson is a former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles at 20 years, 4 months, and 22 days old. Mike Tyson won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout, 12 of them in the first round. He won the WBC title in 1986 after defeating Trevor Berbick by a TKO in the second round. In 1987, Tyson added the WBA and IBF titles after defeating James Smith and Tony Tucker. He was the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, and the only heavyweight to successively unify them.

In 1988 Mike Tyson became the lineal champion when he knocked out Maik Spinks after 91 seconds. Tyson successfully defended the world heavyweight championship nine times, including victories over Larry Holmes and Frank Bruno. In 1990, he lost his titles to underdog James “Buster” Douglas, by a knockout in round 10. Attempting to regain the titles, he defeated Donovan Ruddock twice in 1991, but he pulled out of a fight with undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield due to injury. In 1992, Tyson was convicted of raping Desiree Washington and sentenced to six years in prison but was released after serving three years. After his release, he engaged in a series of comeback fights. In 1996, he won the WBC and WBA titles after defeating Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon by knockout. After being stripped of the WBC title, Tyson lost his WBA crown to Evander Holyfield in November 1996 by an 11th round TKO. Their 1997 rematch ended when Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield’s ear.

    Back then it was rare that a motel would have HBO which was televising the fight and I really wanted to see it.+ I wound up driving 2 1/2 hours to my folks place to see it. What a waste. Smith was badly intimidated and gave zero effort.

    Comfortably Tyson's fight, but how much did he pay the ref? He punched twice after the bell and didn't get a point deducted, but Smith got TWO deducted for harmless holding? And that looked like a clear knockdown. Smith connected on Tyson's chin as he was approaching, Tyson slipped and went down.

    I remember when watching Bonecrusher fight on his comeback spree as a 10-13 year old. He got up there in contention for the WBO Title which was small task back in the 1990s.

    I Bonecrusher landed a few hard shots before clinching he'd win the fight. Instead he just kinda held on for life and limb. I've never seen James Smith fight this way before or after.

    Don't forget. This was a great way for Tyson to show he was a good late round fighter…..he looked great all day in this fight. So did Smith up to the tenth. But I still feel Smith was outclassed the whole fight

    Smith Just held and ran the whole fight. Tyson was so frustrated cuz that dude didnt want to fight that day.

    Say what you want about Smith but he was a crafty, old pro who knew all the tricks to survive and that’s what he was able to do, get his money and go home

    What a brawl. Hats off to both and Mike showed great composure not letting Smith get under his skin but another David vs Goliath ice cold iron mike tyson win

    If that had been a 15 round fight,
    I believe bonecrusher would have
    got him. This was the beginning
    of Tyson's decline. It showed
    other fighters how to beat him.

    Can't help but think that Bonecrusher was offered extra, if he went the distance. That was his only goal – survive to the end, rather than trying to win.
