The Edmonton Oilers Lose Connor McDavid to Injury | The Jesse Blake Sports Report

On this episode of The Jesse Blake Sports Report, no team in the NHL has had a worse start to the season than the Edmonton Oilers. Not only have the Oilers had a 1-3-1, mistake filled start to the year, they will also be without Connor McDavid for the next 1-2 weeks after he suffered an injury on Saturday.

  1. This might be a good thing for Edmonton. Obviously McDavid is irreplaceable but it now forces others to step up and work even harder. Could be a good character building moment for the Oilers.

  2. If Kane wants more ice time he should play better, definitely some reasons he was knocked down to the 3rd line

  3. Dang, he might never come back from this injury the same player. They should trade him for future considerations to my team

  4. Losing 1-2 weeks of McJesus is nothing. Unless it's a lingering back issue, then you won't see a very fast skating McJesus. The Oilers benefited from beating up on a bunch of bad teams in the Western Conference last season, but a bunch of those teams got better defensively in the offseason, so that exposes some of the defensive holes in the Oilers lineup…

  5. You've forgotten all about the lightning, who are having the true worst start to the season. First, lose the best goalie in the NHL for 2 months, and then start 2-2-2 in the toughest division on the league. It's going to be an up-hill battle all year for the Bolts.

  6. This is a huge blow but it’s not as serious as out for months or the season just 2 weeks- more precautionary but maybe a wake up call for the rest of the team to step up, show up, outside of LEON D and play better. What is disappointing is that McDavid misses the heritage classic which he was so looking forward too. McDAVID will get healthy and stronger and return to form. He wasn’t himself from the beginning of the season but a lot of teams expected to win the CUP aren’t looking great either maybe outside of GARY BUTTMANS CHILD VEGAS GOLDEN NUTS. Bedard is not playing that great as expected and Matthews has slowed down. This has been a crazy season I must add.

  7. The Avs definitely have a case for the best start even though expectations were higher. How many goals have they allowed so far? 5 or 6 or something dumb like that. Thats solid.

  8. Oilers are overrated. They have no depth, no defense and no goaltending. The McDavid injury is just devastating.

  9. I wonder where woodcroft goes after the oilers add him to the list of coaches getting let go because they aren’t good enough. Things could easily turn sour in the dressing room if they haven’t already begun to and it will result in woody being sacrificed to the volcano to try and wake them up. Connor brown was a gamble that hasn’t paid off, signing Bouchard only gives the the wrong kinda defenceman that they need. Neither goalie has fully commanded the number one spot. Team has issues and you could see them coming before the season started despite all the media hype

  10. I don't think Kane is nearly as efficient this season because he's never totally recovered from the horrendous injury to his arm. His ability to finish with the puck has been compromised. He's stated that he still doesn't have complete feeling in his hand. It's not his fault, but you can't blame Woodcroft for reducing his playing time, especially after the teams bad start to the season.

  11. Nobody wants to show the respect deserved but, the yotes are looking pretty heckin’ good. Especially considering the expectations from all the salty Canadians and other NHL fans who just dump on the franchise without actually knowing anything about it because it’s the cool thing everyone else is doing.

  12. Of course McDavid will be out with injury. I’m going to see the Oilers at Minnesota on Tuesday.

  13. The Capitals exist Jesse yes losing the best player in the world hurts but when you have the 2nd best player its not as bad as it could be.

  14. I'm glad the injury doesn't sound serious with a 1-2 weeks timeline to return… I think it could be a blessing in disguise to force the rest of the team to step up.

  15. Seeing the Oilers fall apart is a thing of beauty. I'm not talking injuries. I'm talking them just consistently not having goaltending, defense, and now problems scoring, on top of their own players talking crap about the team and coach 😂😂😂

  16. Just tough news. Hopefully he will be back soon and healthy in top form again and dominating like he did last year. It’s now up to the rest of the team to pick it up in his absence. I think the Oilers were saying 1-2 weeks precautionary measures. Play it safe. McDavid just wasn’t himself from the beginning. He put too much pressure on himself and his teammates with Cup or Bust. The new system wasn’t working either. If you look at the rest of the teams. Matthews of Toronto was off to an incredible start and now Ho hum. Jack Hughes is playing great as are the Devils but everything in this league has been crazy. Up and down with a lot of unexpected teams doing well. Bedard was expected to dominate yet is off to a slow start given all the hype surrounding him and expectations. The only club dominating is Gary Buttman’s children Vegas Golden McNuggets or Nuts. 😂. I think the Heritage Classic meant a lot to him (McDavid) . He was so excited about the Heritage Classic game. Maybe they could put padding where his injury is and let him play. If not what can you do but his health is more important now. He will be back in top form dominating again.
