Russo and Smith: Wild’s Dean Evason goes full ‘Torts’ on morning skates — ‘doesn’t make any sense’

Summary:
Dean Evason thinks morning skates are stupid and makes them all optional. Quote: “why would you completely put your gear on, go expend energy and then you’ve got a 15- or 18- minute warmup before the game to expend (more) energy.”

Other teams are going the same route and making morning skates optional as well, so it’s not just Dean.

Both Marcus Foligno and Marcus Johansson tend to take morning skate off. (Clearly this works fine for Johansson, man’s fast as hell)

Duhaime and Middleton are guys who tend to go to morning skate, and like how it gets them moving/in a routine before games.

The article also has some additional notes on Mermis, a Fleury/Foligno prank, and Pavel Novak.

Never understood the concept to be honest. At least with Hockey.

Seeing as the extent of Evason’s “coaching” is to just grind harder, I’m not surprised he isn’t a fan of more practices. Gives him more of a chance of being exposed.
