Haggs: Bruins Rookie Matt Poitras is Here to ‘STAY’ This Season

Matthew Poitras notched his first two NHL goals during the third period, propelling the Boston Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. This win marked the Bruins’ fifth consecutive victory to kick off the season. At just 19 years old and with only five career games under his belt, Poitras is making a strong case to remain with the team in Boston. Bruins Writer Joe Haggerty offers his reactions to the team’s win and provides insights into why Poitras is likely to stay with the Boston Bruins this season.

  1. I was thinking he would be sent back not now ….. I would look at sending him to the World Junior s and send him back to Boston after … it was great for Bergy way back in 2005 …

  2. Not only scoring those 2 goals, but his ability to use his tight edge-work to evade NHL defensemen/skaters in the offensive zone is already 95+ percentile. He's a weapon in the offensive zone. Shoring up his defense and his transition will come. The only place he should be is in the NHL.

  3. Playing another year in junior would stunt his growth. Even sitting the box and practising with the Bruins would help more. Of course he won't be sitting.

  4. He is a great prospect for us, if he gets to play the season I see only progression for him. In these first few games he is getting his timing down as NHL hockey is the fastest and most physical, once he gains a little more experience his defensive positioning will be on point too. He has the natural skating skills and hands to be a great player long term. Super excited to see someone like him come through with Bergy and Krejci gone.
