Tyler Toffoli with the 1 million IQ play to miss 2 open nets just to get our boy Jack that extra point and still get the hat trick
Jack Hughes is really good at hockey.
In December 2024, I have a bet coming through with a r/hockey poster about whether Jack Hughes will be a good center. (from the signing of the contract). I sure hope he continues to improve so I win the bet.
Imagine how good a guy has to be, to be the first star when a player in the game had a Hat trick, and you still out played him.

Good night at the faceoff dot tonight. That makes a big difference. And the 4th line looked solid tonight, especially on the forecheck.

This win felt good. It was an example of a team with more pure talent overcoming a slow start and letting that talent take over and win the game. As a Vanecek skeptic, I have to commend him on an excellent game tonight, with many saves that kept us in the game and kept the door open for us to overwhelm the Canadiens. I love Toffoli’s game and the fact that he looks dangerous on every shift. I am also impressed by Jack’s defensive play of late. With Carolina struggling, we need this kind of team effort to take advantage of the next 4-5 games and build a lead in the division.
Can you even begin to imagine how awful we’d feel every day for the rest of our lives if we didn’t take Hughes and he was a Ranger? Can you even FATHOM the deep dark hole this fanbase would inhabit for the rest of their miserable lives? CAN YOU EVEN START TO CONCEIVE of the absolute grudge that would be held for the rest of eternity, possibly eclipsing all other existing sports grudges in the history of sport???
I just love how Jack is playing defensively. Stealing pucks all over the place and the sick thing is that we’re not even really playing well right now but this guy just makes shit happen. His defense and constantly winning the one on one battles is leading directly to offense.

Don’t let the Hughes and Toffoli night distract from the fact that VV looked GREAT tonight. He made a lot of key saves for them!
Also, I think Holtz is finding his game more and more.
4th line deserves a goal. They look awesome

I’m really liking the Toffoli-Highes-Meier line, Meier just needs to find the back of the net. Which isn’t to say he isn’t playing really well and contributing a lot, just the three of them together scoring goals will maximize that lines potential.

* Yes, some defensive mishaps, some silly penalties, some annoying plays, a pretty bad start, some fumbling in that third period, but overall, a grand fucking game.
* First of all, massive shoutout to Vitek. He had a really strong game.
* Second shout out to that fourth line. I love this iteration of the fourth line. Keep it! Don’t change it.
* Speaking of the lines, these lines are fucking immense. Let’s roll with them for the foreseeable future.

Happy with that win. Came out slow and let up that first goal again. Good response though getting it back quick and taking over rather fast. PP is deadly pk looked better tonight and 5v5 goals came in. Toffoli Hughes and Meier look good. Nico (I see you my Nico lovers out there) with a great game and his first goal. Holtz and Mercer looked good and responsible. Bring this momentum into tomorrow’s game against the caps
Jack was great on O and D, VV was great, Toffoli obviously is finishing chances our wingers would have generally blown the past few seasons, Nico gets on the scoresheet, just a great game. And the power play? I’m so excited to see what we might be able to do with even a top 10 power play in the league. Primeau impressed me despite that his numbers might not look that impressive this game.
Hey, I think this Jack Hughes guy shows some potential.. might turn into a key role player one day

We do it in the powerplays and we have enough center depth to pull this off
Anyways , another hot take. I’m not sure there’s any reason not to play Luke with Marino. We want the guy to develop and maybe even win the Calder. Stapling him to smith is not a recipe for success
There’s no downside to playing Bahl and Smith on the 3rd. I actually think they’ll ALL complement each other well

Solid game by Vitek. Game was a lot closer than the final score suggests.
Last couple years it felt like every game, the devil’s were going up against no-name goalies who stood on their head out of nowhere against us. Feels good to see a no-name goalie doing great against us, but we still win it fairly handily
Ok, now let’s get Mercer and Meier going.
Nico could’ve been a Flyer and Jack could’ve been a Ranger. I want each of you to be grateful every damn day, win or lose.
