Possibly the WORST missed penalty of the year

This is one of the worst no calls I have seen in recent memory. Tonight as the Seattle Kraken faced off against the Detroit Red Wings, Jaden Schwartz desperately trying to save a gaol, threw his stick at the puck going towards Maata. Definitely not something you see every day and he probably saved the goal here, but the problem is that it was NOT called a penalty! As fate would have, about 20 seconds later Dumoulin connected with Kartye who got in all alone and he scored. A missed call on one end a goal on the other. This was clearly a penalty according to rule 53 – throwing equipment. I cover it all in todays NHL video!

  1. Was unable to see the game since iam in the market district but yea that's a pretty big miss call. But still proud to see the wings almost pull it off.

  2. He clearly tripped. I get it though. The refs missed things and had some bad calls. Both teams put on an amazing game though.

  3. What bothers me is all the immature fans defending the poor officiating this year and the past few years. Idk if these people have financial interest in the careers of these officials or if they just don't have any real life experience, but it actively holds the league back at this point. With all the things I've seen about declining attendance league wide, I wouldn't be surprised if the poor officiating and the immature defense of it is a big reason for it.

  4. I don’t see any of the Red Wing’s home games because I live within 60 miles of Detroit but I was broken hearted to find that they lost in overtime. Didn’t know about the missed call until I saw this replay. Definitely should have been at least a penalty, hard to believe a ref could blow that one. But I am happy to see the Wings off to a good start, let’s hope they keep it up and can make the playoffs this season.

  5. what gets me the most is these refs don't really suffer any consequences for these obvious missed calls. I think a fine or suspension should be handed out for missed calls like this. I understand the game is very challenging to see everything but when the camera footage literally shows you looking right at the penalty and not call it. That deserves some type of punishment.

  6. The NHL is the least popular of the major sports in the US because of crap exactly like this. While this is one of the worst offenses of the year(so far) by team zebra, the simple fact is, people new to the game struggle to understand the rules of hockey. Hell, I've been watching hockey for over forty years and I don't know what the rules are. This is because the rules are a nebulous ever changing concept. The rules of an nhl hockey game differ over time based on many factors…not least of which are locale, score, period, time remaining, the date on the calendar, and likely many other factors beyond the control of the players on the ice. Everybody freely acknowledges that a penalty in the first period ≠ a penalty in OT, but would anyone dispute the verifiable fact that a penalty in October differs from a penalty in April? It's difficult to attract new fans when people instinctively recognize the fundamental unfairness of a rulebook that's constantly in flux and it makes the NHL come off as less serious than the other major sports.

  7. You know what I find really funny is that the refs can call an oddball penalty like Chairot playing a puck without his helmet which in no way jeopardizes anyone else except himself but things that blatantly alter the outcome of a game, they miss. And how could one say they didn’t see it? Where were they looking? If you are following the puck, then you would have obviously seen it. Just stupid.
