Wasn’t Boston on some huge sellout streak coming into the year? And they didn’t sell out a home-opener against Connor Bedard? The Canadiens, Oilers and Bruins ones in particular seem odd.
VanAgain
That’s a lot of Canadian teams under-sold.
WestCoastCosta
Isn’t a Buffalo struggling for attendance and have only 13k people showing up so far this year? I saw that on the broadcast.

Lol Yotes
Particular_Tutor_46
Winnipeg can’t fill a 15k arena on opening night? Houston or Salt Lake City Jets anyone?
SpaceSneeze44
99.3% ain’t bad considering how awful the outlook is for the Sharks this year
coalsack
How do you go over max capacity? Is that just resales or some other measurement?
thedeepfake
Ok I’ll ask, how does this get calculated? Are teams literally overselling like the Airlines or is it adding up second hand reselling type shit?
it0xin
Montreal has highest attendance with an undersold crowd then overcrowded teams lol

I remember Winnipeg fans shitting on Thrashers fans about the poor attendance after they relocated. How the tables have turned
Commercial-Row4740
I never understood how attendance can go over 100%. Are people sitting on each others laps?? Anyone care to explain?

Surprised by Ottawa and Edmonton
Notopdelta
Well since the 2021-2022 season, the Bell Centre seating capacity has been 21,105. A part of the desjardins section (middle bowl) has been removed to make a VIP section with wider seats. The seating capacity went from 21,302 to 21,105.
Historically, it evolved like that: 21,273 -> 21,288 -> 21,302 -> 21,105.
Technically, you would consider the Habs to be sold out with 21,105 instead of undersold…
toupis21
I was at that flyers game and no shot it was more than 60% sold out lmao
NickDivz
Panthers looking good while those fraudulent fans from Canada can’t even fill their arenas, move their teams to the US.
Last-Faithlessness-6
Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg vindicating Bettman’s hate-boner for Canada. Looks like a Quebec team’s off the menu.
Even Ottawa sold out their opener. Shame on you all. I guess hockey isn’t a Canadian game, it’s an Ontarian game.

So much for Floridas 6 fans…

You need to consider that attendance does not equal people in seats or even sold tickets.
They were talking about this on the radio when the capitals claimed an end to their streak of “full house” streak. The capitals had not had a full capacity game in years, but claimed it because of the way they defined capacity. Many of these teams have not been at capacity (meaning all seats sold and have someone’s ass in them every single night) for years. Entire sections of many arenas are empty because the teams claim capacity when a percentage (at their discretion) has been sold. Most leftover tickets are courtesy given away to people who will not show up.
We need to be critical about this because capacity does not mean what we think it means.
GroundbreakingSail49
There is no effing way Montreal wasn’t sold out opening
I refuse to believe it and say this graphic is fake news lol

Good on Panthers fans. That makes me happy to see
PBGO123
Boston graphic is wrong, the sellout streak is still going. Pretty sure the Garden’s capacity is capped around 17,565 during the regular season as well.
Chatty_Manatee
This info is misleading and here’s why : capacities fluctuate throughout the years. They can either go up or down depending on the improvement projects of the arenas.
Also, Suites have supplementary tickets that aren’t counted towards the capacity of an arena.
BaseballSafe6317
And % watched on tv in home team areas? Prob 2%
TheBigTree91
Going over 100% just makes no sense. If you can sell a ticket to another person still, you’re not at 100%. They should just account for the fact they can sell GA or standing room tickets. Should probably be noted that some arenas don’t have GA or standing room, so getting over the 100% isn’t possible (for example the Flames) and it would mean that to get the 100% there would have to be no empty seats.
Just saying this is a poor metric.
Chatty_Manatee
Selling ALL these seats is very very hard because of Single seats that inevitably remain. Even on sold-out games, there’s always 10-20 seats that remain unsold because they are single and there’s much less market for single seats.
psubs07
Habs undersold but still had the highest attendance
SINY10306
Surprised to see Ducks over capacity. Were fans there informed that the team didn’t get Bedard?

Crazy that 99% capacity is considered under sold

So the defense for the flyers was idiotic scheduling, they were against a soccer game and an mlb playoff game and if you have ever been there you know how much of a nightmare it can be traffic wise
PharoahNATO
how is it that Arizona is overselling montreal???
N4BFR
Just for context, Winnipeg has 2.9x more people than Arizona. Shouldn’t be celebrating 4,600 attendance.

Arizona State Coyotes packing em to the rafters!!
