  1. You know we are for real because we finally got a real goal horn.
New goal horn = impending greatness

  2. I'm a huge wings fan but way too early to tell. That's why they play! Watch for Veleno, he is on a 1yr contract, he has looked good so far but needs to get points

  3. We'll find out, but speaking as a Canucks fan, while I like Hronek, Detroit made a really smart move getting themselves another 1st round pick rather than getting themselves in cap hell by keeping him until he reaches RFA status. They also got themselves an elite sniper and a lot of good young players are coming up in the next few years. Patience pays off when you know what you're doing. Detroit would be very foolish to get rid of Yzerman. Even if things don't ultimately work out this year, and I think they could be a playoff team, I say stay the course and don't panic. They'll be just fine.

  4. I think they're gonna slow down a little but they have a very good shot of making the playoffs and hopefully making a decent push if they can get hot at the right time

  5. That Sens game will tell a lot about the wings. If they get embarrassed agin like last year you’ll know it’s not sustainable.

  6. DeBrincat, Larkin, Copp, Compher, Gostisbehere, Seider.

All have as many or more points than Justin Abdelkader had (3 assists) in 49 games in 2019-20

  7. Raymond has looked really good. Much better with the puck. He's showing patience and the ability to protect the puck. He's going to pop off this year.

  8. I've been saying everyone is overestimating Ottawa and underestimating Detroit. I believe Detroit is a Dark Horse for a playoff spot.

  9. I remember listening to / watching all the season preview videos, and podcasts, and EVERYONE sold Detroit short. I actually think Shannon was the most optimistic because he said he still believed in the Yzerplan and what they were doing. Everyone else said that Buffalo and Ottawa were waaaay ahead in their rebuilds. I commented on a lot of videos and said that Buffalo could fall off because they caught a lot of teams by surprise last year. I’m also not a believer in their goaltending or defense (I mean people actually playing defense, not forwards that play on the blue line). Tampa and Florida have had rough starts. If they don’t pull it together soon, and Buffalo keeps slumping….there’s no reason why the Sens and Wings can’t BOTH make the Playoffs.

  10. Shannon, I know you might be biased because of Ken & Mick, but you'd fit right in with Red Wings fans. If you're ever bored of Vancouver, we got a spot. Great analysis as per.

  11. Shannon, When Patrick Kane is healthy, do the wings pick him up to play on a line with
DeBrinkcat. Just a thought, they do have the cap space. What do you think?

  12. Before the season started I wrote the Wings off for sure and said Ottawa and the Sabres would sneak into the playoffs. But I might need to reconsider if things keep going the way they are with Buffalo and Detroit

  13. Offence nothing but good news, scoring is coming from several forwards and led by the star shooter.
Defence is another matter, they need to tighten up and stop giving up so many odd man rushes and breakaways.
Excited to see where this will end up. Proves once more that Stevie Y is gradually getting this team into shape.
Imagine getting this core group clicking and having the freedom to still add Edvinsson, Berggren, Soderblom, Kasper… when they are ready to go

  14. Was thinking it would take the wings much longer to gel after all the changes. Hats off to the coaching staff.

  15. Wings have look good need to play d better to many easy shots or break away. This year looks like we fine out if Goalies r good enough

  16. I think a lot of people are sleeping on the redwings this year, if detroits goalies can stay above average I'd say they have a great shot at playoffs.
My hot take is 3rd in the division by seasons end.

  17. They have a pretty solid track record of falling apart the past decade or so. Haven't drafted high enough. They're coming back down to earth in the next five games.

  18. Ofcource they can keep up this. So many pther former glory teams are horrible like capitals, penguins, lightning, galgary, philadelphia who all fall to the bottom, so these new teams have their cycle at the top like detroits and ottawas etc. Plus this detroit and ottawa teams have better rosters than those other teams i mentioned

  19. Good report on Detroit by THG. The Yzerplan seems to be working. I always think it's cool when a new team makes the playoffs, and it would appear the Redwings just may be there.

  20. Big props to Newsie for implementing an offensive system emphasizing forecheck, constant pressure and NZ transition instead of Blashills dump and chase. Still have D issues to work out but energy and skill improvements make for an exciting season

  21. Tomorrow is the first game I'm really interested in seeing. The Sens have smacked them around the last 2 years (Wings are 1-6 against them and I think outscored 34-15 over those 7) so Wings need to play well. A win is preferable but just don't get your butts kicked.

The team will be better than 80 points but playoff? I dunno. The Atlantic is pretty deep. However, this team had 80 points last year with Vrana and Bertuzzi only playing 34 games between them and scoring 5 goals. DeBrincat, Sprong and Compher have 8 now in 4 games. They are deeper than they were last year and over the course of 82 games, that'll help.

  22. Do I think we're "for real"? Nah. I think we'll finish just outside the playoffs this season, but I do think we'll be competitive at the deadline. I don't think we'll be buyers, but I don't think we'll be sellers either. As with everything though, time will certainly tell.

  23. i say this as a hawks fan/wings hater but i must say the league is better when the wings are a good team.
