[Shayna] A number of NHL teams have invested ~$20 million of cap space to two players. But no one – until the Sabres next szn – have that tied up in just two defenders, with the Dahlin and Power contracts. On the risk/reward in investing heavily in top two D:

I feel like investing that much in two young defenseman that can play 25 minutes a night is pretty much the most optimal scenario to be spending $20mil
We’re able to do this when we have our top offensive players for cheap.
I mean … Pittsburgh has almost that much tied up in a 33 year old and 36 year old defenseman.
This means nothing. The cap can be manipulated, it will probably incrementally rise, and successful roster construction can happen in many different ways.
You need talent, and the right mix of skill sets to add to statistically good goaltending (note i didn’t say an elite goalie).
Have you seen these guys play..? Well worth the $$
The Samuelsson contract is such a steal by comparison
