watching the hit back, it looks to be a slew foot. Not sure what Middleton was 'attempting' to do, but he really made an awful decision. Good to see from Podkolzin's insta that he's resting comfortably at the hospital, I really hope his recovery is smooth and fast, brain injuries are scary (which is exactly why slew foots are a major offence these days). I've seen enough of Keaton that I would be surprised if there was any intent to injure, but this certainly warrants a decent length suspension, to drive home the point to him and anyone else.

I was at this game with my wife. It was a weird hit that had him lay there for half a dozen seconds. Then it looked like he had some sort of a seizure for 10 seconds, before the refs finally stopped things and the paramedics rushed out. I feel bad for everyone, including middleton. I’m sure he doesnt feel good about what happened. A bit of a grey area on whether or not the game should have just ended.
I am fan of the CV Firebirds. I have tickets for the Abbotsford vs. Firebirds next Tuesday. I want to see a good competitive game with CV winning of course. What players from Abbotsford should I be watching for? It is unfortunate to hear about the injury to Podkolzin. I am not familiar with the player. I got back from the Firebirds vs the Reign tonight. One of our players got hit into the boards and spitting up blood. And our Goalie took a hit and it looked like he got knocked out for a moment.

I feel sick right now. I know Podz posted on insta and all said he's fine but that was brutal. Middleton needs a big fat suspension.

I was really scared. I think my first time seeing the injury like that but the game was true affect. The boys played awesome.
I boarded a guy in HS- he went down and didn’t get up. I was so worried about the guy on the ice while I sat in the box. Later, i understood why I can’t just rush a guy. I feel so bad for both parties involved

I'll be in Ontario watching Canucks vs. Reign on Sunday.
It's almost identical to the cheap shot on Pettersson by Matheson, when the Canucks played Florida a few years ago. If Middleton just delivers the blindside hit it still might have injured him, but there should be zero tolerance for piledriving him into the ice afterwards. I'm pulling for Podkolzin to get back to the NHL again and hope it isn't as bad as it looked.

I was listening the other day to the SDP podcast and the guys were talking about how the AHL can be more “intense “ where guys are riding the edge doing bigger things to draw the attention of the NHL people for the opportunity to be in the NHL. They were talking about how it might be safer to have a prospect up versus down and this seems to reinforce that sentiment.

I was at the game as well. I was surprised they let the game continue. Everybody was shaken after. It was one of the most scary thing I’ve ever seen, and I’m praying Podz is okay.

I hope he's ok. I've seen Middleton play dozens of games, and this is so unlike him. Was watching last night online, and it was awful.
The Colorado Eagles feed never turns the booth to radio station audio off during commercials. So sometimes you hear something funny or inappropriate. Last night McGlue our radio guy was just telling the station to stack up commercials, this is really bad and it's going to be a lot of dead air with nothing to talk about other than repeating how bad the hit was. We had the in house camera angle, so like you said we were just watching the benches online.
On a less important note, why is that building so empty? I know it's a school night, but wow.

As I type this (just before 10am in Red Deer), it sounds like Podz is doing well now. I imagine he got rattled hard.
Shannon, you would have found my shouting antics amusing back in the late 80s/early 90s Chilliwack Chiefs games. Pretty sure ever single ref and linesman hated me. (stupid teenagers.. lol)
