  1. Nhl and other professional leagues promote sports betting like crazy it’s even on the equipment’ in the NHL

Then players are getting suspended for betting on other leagues.

Why promote sports betting so much then. HYPOCRISY at its finest

  2. I had a weird felling over Pinto not singing had to be something somewhere y this was not getting done. Now Pinto has really no choice at all to sing a 1 million or less definitely he is put him self in a really bad place

  3. Things make a lot more sense now for the whole Pinto thing… guess it wouldnt be a Sens season without some off-ice drama

  4. Out of all the players, Pinto probably the one I would expect the least to be involved in anything like this. Seemed like a good kid that loved the game. This incident doesn’t mean he’s not a good kid, just a mistake. Hopefully he learns from it and everyone moves on.

  5. I assume this is the reason why PD hasn’t made a trade to sign Pinto yet, but if not then this gives me 2018 vibes all over again

  6. The problem is that Pinto has no doubt signed a "code of conduct" agreement and he violated that. I have one signed with my employer and it's black and white.

  7. It's wildly inappropriate and puzzling that the NHL is actively promoting gambling through all media networks and outlets while subsequently punishing one of it's players for participating in gambling… It's ridiculous that we have strict regulations with other addiction related activities like smoking and drinking but gambling is like wild-fire.

  8. Holy cow this franchise is a gong show. The US has the Chicago Bedardhawks and Canada has this continuous source of drama called the Ottawa Senators. At least Brady avoided suspension, not like the team has the cap space to call up another prospect.

  9. Pinto might have room for a lawsuit against the company who gave him up. He gambled alright and might come out ahead. He might be willing now to sign a lower $ deal

  10. I dont think the 2 are separate. We also heard that the Sens had a trade in place as well. When Shane came to Ottawa this was about to be finalized and then this showed up. Although SN is reporting that parties have known about this since summer

  11. Pinto didn’t bet on hockey, and he didn’t murder anyone… and was following the NHLs advice and bet on sports. Severe (but fair) consequence, and will be easy to move on from this. Onward and upward!!

  12. What is the rationale behind not allowing nhl players to bet on other sports? If it's a morality clause, that seems insane at this point.

  13. He read the rules and signed. So if Pinto couldn't get a friend to make the bet for him. He can sit, and Ottawa should think about moving him. We should be going for the CUP.

  14. RIP to Shane Pinto’s leverage in contract talks.

Here’s what you do, Shane. You wait until just before the December deadline. You sign a league minimum 1 year contract. You sit the year out.

Edit: Pillzy is saying that December deadline is different or N/A in his particular case. But I stand by the sentiment of my post. Lol

  15. We all make mistakes! It’s not like Shane Pinto killed or raped or assaulted anyone. He baiscally did something we all do and it is advertised everywhere.
As a pro athlete, he is not supposed to do it, but he did, so he got penalized and will learn and move on!

Also, about the 41 games starting at game, one of the season that Pillzy mentioned, I think that was negotiated between the NHL and the player before announcing the suspension. I’m no legal guy here, but it sounds like there was negotiations before announcing it.

  16. So disappointed in Shane. He has to be smarter than this. He is a great hockey player and his future still remains bright. He needs to regroup and get ready for January.

  17. NHL is F**king stupid. Promote the crap out of betting, promote it everywhere, but try to act morally correct and suspend a guy like crazy. Stupid

  18. Its very confusing that the NHL thinks that supporting their main advertisers is worse than stomping on a guy with your skate or breaking a guys neck with a cheap shot. Will we ever get a justification for the 41 games because there's gotta be more to this?
