I wonder if this is more about the Canucks giving Rathbone a fresh start than it is about them picking up a RH defenceman?

There was talk last year about moving him to give him a new start
They could do worse than trading with the penguins.
Glover? Oh man! So glad for Friedman as I know he can give a lot to our Defensive Line! AS LONG as he is not sent down! Needs to prove he belongs (pair with a Vet Defenseman who can improve his game)! Ty Glover… a forward with no potential. Sadly. However… Rathbone is awesome and was alright trade value for this as there is no real loss with Rathbone gone. And as for Plasek… he is equal with Glover. Lots to prove and no real potential at this time. Essentially the trade could have just been straight up with Rathbone for Friedman.
Rathbone was a bust for us you might as well get something for him while we can. GcG!!!
